Did you know that the Atlantic Ghost Crab is one of the fastest crabs on Earth? They can run up to 10–12 mph, making them absolute track stars of the crab world. Their burrows can be 3–4 feet deep, helping them regulate temperature and avoid predators. The presence or absence of ghost crab burrows is often used by scientists to measure beach ecosystem health. I bet several of you have witnessed beachgoers hunting these little guys at night. I'm not really a fan of this practice, as they are a key component of a healthy beach ecosystem, and people catching them and removing them from the beach can have a negative impact on the local environment.

I’m happy to report that Hank our resident Great Blue Heron is alive and doing well. We found out that he loves hot dogs and we have been feeding them to him on a regular basis. His broken beak in this picture has grown back a lot and you can barely tell now days.
