A couple weekends ago, we celebrated Penny’s FIRST birthday (pictures and stories to share very soon!) and one of my friends also reminded me at the party by saying, happy 1 year postpartum! It’s something to be celebrated. Which it absolutely is 🙌 Us women go through so much during pregnancy, birth, and especially postpartum that is really is an amazing feat to do what we can do. After Penny was a few months old, I went to my doctor and decided to go on a mood stabilizer (Lexapro) and I am still on it! It made such a massive difference during postpartum, and it’s just a reminder that it’s OK to ask for help if you feel depressed, things feel off, or if you need extra support. Some of the absolute best things I’ve learned during this past year of postpartum -
1. Listen to your body and get help if you need it!
2. Hire a postpartum doula ahead of time for the first month your baby is born! Getting one day a week to sleep, reset, or do other errands while the doula watches over your babe was so wonderful. I hired Rachael Katz | Certified Birth & Postpartum Doula, CLE and it was the best money I ever spent. She did a few overnights with us and it was so good to get that extra sleep!
3. I cannot say enough good things about Taking Cara Babies: Baby and Toddler Sleep Expert 😍 I used it with Penny since she was a newborn and it was a lifesaver in figuring out best sleep practices, naps, wake windows, and any bumps along the way. Penny naps 3 hours a day solidly, and 10-12 hours a night consistently since she was 6 months old.
Happy 1 year to my girl and surviving this first year postpartum and learning to be a mom ❤️
