Vista Landscapes by Frank Ceravalo

Vista Landscapes by Frank Ceravalo Nature and Landscape photography including prints and other gift products that feature my work. One of the images from that roll resulted in my first landscape.

In February 1983 the Shenandoah Valley experienced a 30 inch snow fall. One of the things my new wife and I realized was that we did not have a camera to take pictures of the event. So as soon as the snow melted enough to move, we went to our local photo shop and purchased a used 35mm range finder camera. I was given a 12-exposure roll of film and told to go out, give it a try, and bring the camer

a back if I did not like the results. Since then I've improved my technique and equipment, but the main focus of my photography has remained the same:
Nature & Landscape Photography. My formal photographic training consists of adult education classes and several seminars. The majority of my education has been from personal reading, analyzing the work and technique of the top nature and landscape photographers, and my own experimentation in the field. I have a BS degree in Chemical Engineering and feel that the training as an engineer has helped with the technical aspect of photography. But more importantly, I use the engineering mind set of always looking for different ways of viewing a situation and adapting to it. Emphasis is placed on composition of light and form. I particularly like morning for the quality of light but also for the affects of fog that are more prominent in the morning. Although many of my older images were shot using 35mm I now shoot totally digital, viewing the format used as only the tool to acquire the final image.

THROWBACK THURSDAY
Through the years I have been associated with Wonderful WV Magazine, including covers etc. I believe this was the first cover I actually had with the magazine, April 2005. I know it was at least reviewed by Arnout Hyde before his death, because I recieved some feedback.
You might need to click on the image to see the full cover.

THROWBACK THURSDAY
PUMPKINS
As we continue my photographic journey
Way back in the old days of slides this photo of my Dad's pumkin crop became my very first published (and paid) image. It was in BlueRidge Country Magazine. One thing I don't miss about film days is submissions to different publications or other processes. In those days you had to make copies of the images you wanted to submit, get them labeled, put them in protective sleeves, and the mail (with return postage) to send to whoever the publisher was. Much easier now.

WARBLER WEDNESDAY
Chestnut sided warbler
I captured this image in Canaan Valley NWR along the Freeland Trail boardwalk. There were several flitting around and I found that if I sat down on the boardwalk they did not seem to care that I was there.
