🤍 A message moving forward, PLEASE read!!!
You may notice a change in the way I share sessions involving children/babies moving forward.
When I post publicly to Facebook, Instagram, or other social media platforms, I will be choosing images where children’s faces or other identifying features are not visible, or I will blur those features when appropriate.
Let me be clear- your galleries are NOT changing!!!!
You will still receive the same beautiful images of your family that you always have. This change only affects what I, as a business, am going to choose to share publicly online.
This is something I hold near to my heart, as recent developments surrounding artificial intelligence have become much scarier, it has solidified my decision. I personally DO NOT even post my own son publicly for this reason.
AI technology has advanced to a point where photographs can be manipulated and altered in ways that were once unimaginable. Once I put a photograph of your child on a public social media page, I cannot control who screenshots it, downloads it, saves it, or what technology could potentially be used to do with it.
A recent federal appeals court decision involving AI-generated child sexual abuse material has made me think even harder about the world we are navigating as parents and as a photographer entrusted with images of children. While the ruling was specifically about the private possession of completely AI-generated material that did not depict a real child, the fact that we are even having these legal conversations in the age of increasingly realistic AI is horrific.
We should be protecting our children.
As a photographer, I cannot control the internet. But I can control what I contribute to it.
As a mom, I will do my part in protecting not only my baby, but yours as well.
Our children deserve their privacy. They deserve their innocence. And they deserve the opportunity to grow up without having hundreds of identifiable images of themselves placed publicly online by businesses before they are old enough to have any say in it.
I also want to be clear that this is not a judgment toward parents who choose to share photographs of their own children. Every parent gets to make that decision for their own family. 🤍
This is simply the decision I am making about what Photography by Olivia LLC puts onto public platforms.
I know this may make showcasing my work more difficult. I know potential clients often want to see smiling faces and complete family portraits before booking. And yes, I recognize that this decision could potentially affect my bookings.
I’m okay with that.
Because protecting the children and families who trust me is more important than engagement, reach, or another booking.
There are still SO many beautiful ways for me to share my work, tiny hands holding Mom’s, little feet running through the grass, hugs, movement, connection, details, and all of those in between moments that tell your family’s story without sharing your child’s identity with the entire internet.
You hired me to capture your memories.
You didn’t hire me to give the internet unlimited access to them. 🤍
Thank you for trusting me with your families, your memories, and most importantly, your babies.
Their privacy will always be worth protecting.
