Originally from southwest Florida, I currently live in Marrero, Louisiana. I moved to New Orleans by myself for no particular reason at all over 8 years ago. I met a Cajun boy, fell in love and made my home here. When I'm not photographing families, I'm with my own, getting dirty in our garden or helping my husband with his crawfish catering business.

Hi thereeee,

For those of you who I've yet to meet, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Autumn, and I am from SW Florida. I've been in New Orleans for over a decade. One day I just decided I wanted to move away to somewhere new by myself just because. A rare instance I let go of my impulse control.

I found a Cajun and made two Cajun babies. Birthed them on my bathroom floor (10/10 would do again) and have been slowly building a quiet life on the West Bank.

I'm quite the perfectionist (I'm a Libra okayyyyy) but I chose gardening to be my one area of chaos. I throw seeds around, build everything from reclaimed materials, and don't worry about having a picture-perfect garden. I aim for my children's fondest memories of me to be of us getting dirty and just watching the bugs do their little bug things.

I love photographing births, and all things birth adjacent. I want to capture the moments that happen all the time until they no longer do. A moment in time that cannot be replicated. Portraits captured in the wild of your home.

A family of three became a family of five 🥲

A well-rested mom birthed both babies exactly how she wanted and were they ever so eager to meet her!

I was honored to photograph her first birth as well, and something I just love is how much more involved and confident dads are when it's the second go around. We love to see it 🥹

Building a life that my children won't have to heal from is one of my greatest ambitions.

Instead there are always flowers blooming, art and music being made, daily dance parties, and love - lots of love.

Still incredibly hard to shove as many images into 20 slides when you sent a gallery of over 300 and they're all just so good; alas I digress.

Pt. 2

Morning came and mom was encouraged to reset: shower, eat, and start some movement. Even in the daylight this home was full of color. Oh and the love! The love between these two is so prevalent and strong; adoration is hardly an accurate enough noun to describe how it felt to bear witness. I trust you'll feel the same as you look upon these images.

Nighttime would come again before baby made their debut.

I remember when I walked up to this house and saw the many multi-colored lights throughout the home and thought to myself "oh my god this is a photographers worst nightmare". I was scared. Using flash was clearly forbidden; the sanctity of this birth depended on it.

I leaned into it. Lowering my shutter and holding my breath for each shot. Mom labored all night, amidst house and drum and bass beats. Eventually we (her birth team) piled onto the couch and took a nap giving her and her partner some space.

Pt. 1 because 20 slides is hard.

Something I've added to my workflows is a session planning call. While I've always sent out a questionnaire before any photoshoot, chatting face-to-face prior to our session has been a game changer.

Here's how it works:

When you book your photoshoot date, you'll also book a zoom call - typically sometime within a week of the shoot. We'll spend up to an hour getting to know each other (which helps with the pre-shoot anxiety!) and we'll figure out together exactly what you hope your images look (& most importantly) 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭 like.

The years just seem to go by faster and faster the older I get. In the blink of an eye my little nugget is turning a year old and I think now's as good a time as any to share the story of how I accidentally free-birthed my baby. (Birthing without a medical practitioner in attendance...although we did have her on the phone 😅).

"What kind of lights should we get?"

I love when you guys ask me this...because let's be honest, nowadays everything is LED. It's inexpensive, bright, and energy efficient. But man, it is awful to photograph. The best lighting you can choose for your birth? Incandescent. Real candles. Real light.
