Happy National Parks Day! On this date in 1916, the National Parks Service was founded when it was signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson. We love our national parks, and have been to quite a few of them since we started hiking in 2020. Whenever we visit the Great Smoky Mountains, we make it a point to visit Cherokee, North Carolina at some point on our trip. This time we visited Mingo Falls, the 5th-highest waterfall in NC! It did not disappoint!

One of our favorite things to do in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is climb up to the top of Kuwohi, the park's highest peak (which also happens to the be the 3rd highest point in eastern North America!). In the Elkmont area of the Great Mountain Mountains National Park, there's a trail that goes by a beautiful, roaring mountain stream called Little River. We've done a video on Little River before, but this one is in the height of summer with lush forest greens!

Here's a hike we did earlier today at The Breaks in Virginia! Though it was only a mile-long loop, it was a true adventure. It had lots of trees, rock features, mushrooms, a babbling stream, downhill, uphill, bridges, stairs, overlooks... a sampler of everything Breaks Interstate Park has to offer!
