Photos from a forest adventure with my buddy Frieda. We spent the afternoon joyfully leaping down wooded slopes and exploring caves and beaver ponds.

Sometimes events are primed for artistic, beautiful shots. Fog machine, colored lights, dynamic dancing... this was a dream shoot. It was also the senior show of a friend at college. The dining hall of our school was transformed into a Latin dance club for an evening of choreographed and improvised social dance.

I mostly danced with my camera, dipping to the floor and lofting onto chairs to catch the motion and energy of the scene.

In these conditions, it is all about the atmosphere and energy. I didn't have to worry about taking clear photos because I wanted to capture the dreamy and visceral quality of the event. I could bump my ISO up high and keep my shutter speed low because the grain and motion blur just added to the effect.

Photos from a fantastic ski trip with Kroka Expeditions in the Chic Choc mountains on the Gaspe peninsula in Quebec. We spent seven days traveling between lodges with much of our food and gear on our backs. It is another world in those mountains with more snow than I have ever seen (a good 15 feet in places).

With this series, I wanted to engage the imagination and encourage a deeper look at the color, texture, and rhythm of the mountains. I wanted to reveal the powerful flow of energy and form in these seemingly static beings.

Half of these photos were taken from the top of a mountain pass in Switzerland. The other half were taken through the car window as we drove down. (Less romantic but surprisingly successful.)

Went on a beautiful hike in Albavilla Italy. It was the perfect fall day to eat cheese and bread at the top of a mountain and a welcome relief from civilization.

The sun was setting behind a cafe in Rennes, France and I found this metal sculpture silhouetted against the sky. As I took these photos I tried to imagine who this creature was, towering above the city and walking the shadows at the edge of night.

We were warming up in a church before our concert and I captured these long exposures of Lexi Ugelow jumping and twirling while I did the same with the camera. The color of her sweater and the beautiful architecture of the church blend in some interesting ways.

All of these photos are long exposures of a typewriter. I placed my flashlight underneath so that it was shining through the keys and moved my camera during exposures. Even the crazy alien/space ones are simple long exposure. Minimal editing of contrast in Lightroom.
