Another special event is coming this summer! July 26 will mark the 100th Anniversary of the official dedication of Kelly Park to the city of Crestline. A lot has changed over those years, yet the park has remained popular.

Don't want anyone else, there had to be at least one of you, losing sleep over the true identity of "Toppie" so... He was the friendly elephant face featured on Top Value Stamps advertising campaigns back in the day when numerous people collected those stamps from participating retailers to eventually be cashed in for prizes if their choice.

Over the years more than 50 businesses (generalization) have used "Crestline" as part of their official name. How many can you name?

Ok, "Toppie" seems to be more of a stranger than I thought he would be. Here's a couple more clues to his identity.

He had HUGE ears and a long nose that even Pinocchio would have been jealous of. And for bonus points, he was completely covered with checker markings.

This one is probably way to easy, but I'll ask anyway. Who remembers "Toppie?"

He was quite famous in the 50's & 60's and was always seen with his too-small hat with his name proudly visible in the band.

Did you know that in 1896 'Crestline was home to 17 operating grocers, 6 meat markets and least 60 other active businesses (which I'll include in the book) serving a community approximately 75 percent smaller than the current population!

And people wonder why it has taken me over 20 years to research, compile and print my book?

There has been quite a few birthday announcements hitting my screen lately which as compelled me to share the following quote that I found on page 3 of the Crestline Daily-News newspaper from May 13, 1902:

"Old age slips up on a man before he knows it and on a woman before she let's anyone know it."

Forgive me ladies, but since that quote appeared in one of the four newspapers published in Crestline I feel it qualifies for inclusion in the history book!

Hopefully I'm not the only one on here old enough to remember the aT&A Safeway store that was in business on the corner of Main and County Line Road.
If you're old enough to remember it, without using Google, who knows what the "T&A" in the name stood for? I'll let you know if everyone is stumped.

It was just over 100 years ago, April 26, 1923 to be exact, that the 225 foot steeple in top of St. Joe's was taken down and replaced with the much shorter tower standing today! More details can be found in the book "Our" Town when it becomes available.
If anyone has any Crestline history that they would like to share in the forth-coming reference book currently under construction, please feel free to contact me here.

Anyone willing to admit being one of the 50 original Crestline teenagers that banded together to form the "Town Teen Club?"

Good morning Crestline family! Been awhile since I posted anything on here and I apologize.

Woke up early for a change and was thinking of all of you while the coffee was brewing. I'm curious to learn who you consider Crestline's "dignitaries" (past or present) to be...and most importantly, WHY?

Yes, I will try to work the results of this survey into "Our Hometown," that long overdue book I have promised to finish and grateful for your patience while waiting.
