Every type of light produces a different kind of beauty. The fog on the coast or the aftermath of rain creates a cozy PNW vibe especially when surrounded by fir trees. A nice cloudy day can cause skin to glow and creates great even tones (a relief to a photographer in the editing process). The sunny morning is alive with the promise of a new day, and afternoon shadows are charming and clean. I love all the different kinds of light for different reasons.
A sunset, though, and particularly the two hours before called “golden hour”, creates those deep, rich golden tones that just delights the eye. It’s not particularly the easiest to photograph in my opinion, especially for a true-to-life photographer who cringes at yellow color casts and orange skin. But there’s just something about the sun and the sky in those moment that speaks to the glory of God, and I think that’s why we gravitate towards it so much. I think we can all agree that it’s a beautiful and glorious thing to look at, plain and simple. I so enjoy working with the light, catching the gold, and using that creativity for my clients in that particular moment of their lives.
