As well as my endless passion for landscapes, birds etc, I've spent a lot of time since February shooting another of my favorite things sport, trying to put together a new portfolio of images in the genre. I haven't actually done any sports photography since my early 20's when I worked for a UK paper down on the south Coast of England. I must admit its been a lot of fun over the last few months taking photo's of high school athlete's in sports I've never ever shot in my life, basketball and lacrosse amongst them, kids who play for the love of sport and nothing else. So I thought I'd share a couple of my many, many picture today. Hope you enjoy 🙂

It's funny but when I was on my bird shoot down in Florida in Sanibel, I really wanted to capture a Cardinal. Now I have lots of them in my actual back yard, but down in Sanibel I have made a few trip and never seen one. The Hurricane down there really damaged the bird sanctuaries and are taking a while to recover. I finally found a cardinal, and it took 2 mornings and a lot of patients for him to actually be in the right area of light to take this picture. It shows the habitat is recovering and even small birds are returning which is great :)

With the basketball season now finished I wanted to take the last shot I posted and show a movement in time from a photographers view point.

It's great when I get to combine my photography skills with the ones I used to use when doing visual effects on films and shows like Gladiator and Game of Thrones and create a Matrix effect for this picture and composite the whole sequence of the move together into a single shot.

I wanted to share one of the shots I took during the recent basketball season.

I’ve photographed many different sports over the years, but this was actually my first time shooting basketball. It was a fun challenge trying to capture the speed and intensity of the game.
