Let’s talk about self portraits!

A self portrait is a portrait of oneself done by oneself. While I can’t speak for other fellow photographers…I will say FOR ME that this was very uncomfortable. I would much rather be behind the lens. With that being said, I think it is important for photographers sit with being uncomfy and explore taking a self portrait. It aids in understanding portraiture, the art of creating portraits and it also gives the photographer a chance to see an image through the clients perspective.

Photographers tell stories through their images. In my opinion, it is important for non photographers to take self portraits for that same reason. It tells your story. It speaks to what state of mind you’re in, your emotions, your style.

Here is my self portrait. It speaks to my style in photography. If you know me, you know I LOVE a deep, dark shadow.

Join me in posting a self portrait of yourself. It can be a photograph, a painting or even a drawing. It also doesn’t necessarily have to be of your face. Tag me in it!
