The sphinx moth is one of my favorite creatures in the Sierra Nevada.
It seems like it is part hummingbird, part moth. I’ve seen these incredible insects at surprisingly high elevations, hovering among alpine wildflowers with astonishing speed and precision.
Every time I see one, I’m reminded that some of the most fascinating wildlife in the mountains isn’t always the biggest or the most obvious. Sometimes it’s a creature that weighs less than a few grams yet can stop you in your tracks. The High Sierra never runs out of surprises.

Astro folks…. What is that? Upper left corner.
This Milky Way time lapse was taken on a beautiful summer night near the Ancient Bristlecone Pine forest. Look close and you will see a white streak then a pop resulting in an orange ring of debris. Is this part of the meteor exploding as it enters the atmosphere? Is it the ignition of a gas? I’m super curious.
Also check out the crazy comet-jet-Superman thing going across the horizon.

PS. It’s crazy how much stuff is going across the sky

Western Sierra Nevada spring vibes.

….now I need to start working on the summer bod for swimming hole season. Maybe I’ll be ready in 2027.

Yup, the water is COLD….even Nikko@wasn’t up for a swim.
I have obsessive compulsive swimming behavior and can’t pass up a quick sunset dip even if the breeze is freezing.
Fortunately Haryn will have the truck warm and heated seats cranked.

We adopted Nikko 2 years and one day ago and every day with this happy little adventure nugget has been amazing.

After fostering a few dogs thru Frankie Lola & Friends Frankie Lola and Friends , Haryn was itching to adopt our own. She knew Nikko was the one the moment we saw her online, but I was hesitant and not quite ready. The. An hour later Lisa asking if we wanted to foster a sick pit-mix puppy from the Lancaster shelter, that just happen ed to be Nikko.
The stars literally aligned and at this point I really didn’t have a choice. So here we are with the best pup we have ever had the privilege of calling family.
