Plot twist: it’s not just about the photos.

It’s the laughing halfway through your session, the moment you catch your reflection on my screen and think “wait, that’s me?”, the “wow” you whisper softly as you realize just how at ease you’ve become in front of the camera. It’s that extra swing to your hips as you step up to pose, that exaggerated flip of your hair because you’re having so much fun and the way you walk out standing a little taller than when you walked in. The smile that seems permanently fixed to your face as you review your images or the quiet wonder you feel from realizing just how beautiful you are.

Most people think a portrait session is just about walking in, getting your photos taken and posting them on social media for the world to see. And then there are the few that know it’s much more than that.

I’m not saying a great portrait experience boosts your confidence. But I’m not NOT saying that either. 💛

Here’s what I know after all the sessions I’ve photographed: the women who walk in with doubt are the ones who walk out undone by what they see. Not because anything about them changed, but because someone finally showed them what was always there.

You don’t need to be smaller, prettier, or more “ready.” You don’t need to earn your place in front of the camera. You’ve spent so long putting everyone else first that you've forgotten you’re allowed to take up space.

She came to the beach with nothing to prove. 🌊

No stiff poses. No “how do I stand?” Just Ann Marie, the ocean, and a whole lot of laughing, like you see in that first frame.

That’s the thing about women who aren't afraid to be carefree: you can’t direct it, you can only make space for it. So we let the wind do what it wanted, let the waves interrupt us, and let her move the way she moves when no one’s watching. She wasn't afraid to splash around in the water, stroll through the sand or just be silly when I promoted her to.

Every frame in this carousel is her. Unforced, unguarded, and completely at home in her own skin.

This is what happens when a woman stops worrying “do I look okay?” and starts feeling like herself. The photos don’t create the confidence. They just prove it was there all along.

Patiently waiting for the woman who rolls her eyes at other women’s photoshoots but has had “get professional photos done” on her own to-do list for three years to find my page. 🕊

Let’s be honest for a second.

When you see a woman post her glam shots, what’s the first thing you feel? If it’s an eye roll, a “must be nice,” or a “I could never spend that kind of money just to get photos done,” pay attention to that. Sometimes the loudest criticism is really a quiet “I want that too.”

She didn’t take something from you. She just stopped waiting for permission.

The hair, the makeup, the experience aren’t vanity. They’re a woman deciding she’s worth the time, the investment, and the spotlight. And you know the difference between her and you? She booked it.

We were originally supposed to do this session the day before. Naturally, South Florida had other plans and it rained all day. I saw the sun was out the next day and called up Ann Marie and said let’s go!

We had already called a wrap in this portrait session and were walking back to our bags when I looked up and saw how gorgeous the sky was.

When you do a beach session, your backdrop is mainly the water. Sometimes, you have to look behind you for the unexpected. That’s exactly what happened here.

I immediately stopped and said we have to get one last shoot with this beautiful sky in the background! The conditions were perfect. Her skin has that golden glow from the light. I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome if I tried!

Can we go back to the days when we posted one image and that was enough?

The days when we didn’t have to chase the algorithm for our images to get seen.

The days where we could celebrate the beauty of one great image without text or music or any of the BS.

And the client’s experience didn’t get drowned out by the need to create content.

In this world of overstimulation, let simplicity be enough.

Every woman who books a session with me is a little nervous. Maybe even a lot.
She’s wondering if she’ll know how to pose, if she’ll look “good enough,” if she’s even the type of person who gets her portraits taken.

Then I turn the camera around. 🤍

We had just finished up with this outfit and were walking back up to do a wardrobe change when I had the idea for a carefree shot I thought suited Ann Marie’s personality and her vision for what she wanted out of her session. I asked “What if you go back to the water and start kicking it up in the air?” Even though she had no idea what I was envisioning or what it would look like, she was willing to try. As she kicked and laughed, I captured her joy init’s purest form. Sometimes, all it takes is a little nudge.

That “oh wow, I like that!” is my favorite sound in the world. It’s the second she stops doubting and starts seeing what I’ve seen all along.

You don’t have to feel ready. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to show up, and I’ll handle the rest.

In this profession, sometimes you're fortunate enough to have a client who turns into a close friend. Janet and I met in 2020, when she hired me to photograph her launch party for her event planning business.

We became fast friends. She was like my big sister, my cheerleader and my creative confidant. We went on trips together, celebrated together, and worked together on many projects over the years.

On Friday, I received the most heart wrenching news and the world got a little bit dimmer. Janet, I will miss your beautiful smile, your gentle spirit, your calm voice leaving messages about a new idea you have or a project you want us to work on.

You were always fabulously dressed and put together. You always had a smile on your face and a kind word to give. This world is a little darker without you in it. May God grant your soul a peaceful eternity in his loving arms.

She sat down in my studio and said, "I just don't want to look fake."

Two hours later, she saw her images and went quiet. Then she said, "That's me. That's actually me."

Almost every woman that walked into my studio had the same fear you have right now: What if I don't look like myself?

Here's what I've learned after every session: Every woman wanted to feel beautiful, glamorous, like themself. I'm not here to change you. I don't overly retouch your images until you barely recognize the person staring back at you or put you in every pose imaginable until you're so uncomfortable that it shows on camera. I'm here to show you who's been there all along, the version you've been too busy taking care of everyone else to notice.

I'm here to make you feel comfortable. To make sure you're taken care of, if even for a few hours. I'm here to help you remember that version of yourself you thought you lost a long time ago. The one you keep ignoring and brushing off as the "old you".

You don't have to feel beautiful before you book. That feeling is what the session gives you.

You'll walk in uncertain. You'll walk out with your confidence at an all-time high.
