Pulling from years of experience of owning a landscape design business, and as of one of the head set stylists at QVC Studios, I use the raw landscape as a backdrop, and the sun as the light source. My focus is on capturing the words behind a picture, always leaving a little room for interpretation, but keeping true to the subject.

As I ponder my social media fast that spanned from Halloween to the Winter Solstice I am in awe of the peace that comes from not scrolling. I plan to greatly reduce my time spent on social this year, using it with intention and equanimity. What a perfect time to make a change: on this shortest day of the year, when hope will be on the rise, along with the sun, for a minute more each day to follow.

Spending this 1st day of December at . The holiday exhibition “Artists Choose Artists” has 113 gift-worthy original art pieces by local emerging and established artists. Come visit 11-4!

Pictured is my photo of last year’s full Christmas moon printed on matte metal. I had left the shutter open for more than a second to try and capture a more clear image of the moon. But it was windy, the clouds were moving, and so was my tripod perched on my upstairs balcony. Hence the blurred clouds, giving the whole photo a painterly look. A happy accident.

Sunflower

Her head bends in acquiesce to the coming season, the weight of the summer has taken a toll.

Her petals that once shone like the sun,
now brown and shriveled, barely hang on.

She wonders if her usefulness is gone.

Still, September’s sky beams blue,
as behind her cotton ball clouds drift by, reminding her of seeds that will bloom next year.

Beneath her, dying roots feed the soil
as birds glean the last bit of nourishment from her downturned face.

Perhaps her use is not lost, after all, only changed.
