I’m not good at goodbyes. 🌲😢 This one hurts. I discovered Oliver Tree in 2018 while scrolling through Twitter. My first thought was: who the hell is this crazy dude? Then I saw the music video for Alien Boy / All That. It was like a breath of fresh air that I’d not known I needed. The rest of my day was shot. I spent the afternoon going down a rabbit hole of music, videos, pictures, and other amazing art that this guy had created. I was instantly a diehard fan and shared his art with all my friends.
Beneath the memes, scooters, bowl cuts, and the crazy characters there was always a positive message and damn good music. Oliver loved to tell people that they are beautiful no matter how ugly they may think they are. I always loved this message. I always felt like I could relate to Oliver and that one day maybe I would be able to meet him. At least I was able to have seen him live twice. Once in Minneapolis and at Red Rocks last October. I was super disappointed to hear that he died on Sunday and I had to do something about it, so I went out and and created these light drawings in his honor. 🌀
Thanks for all the amazing art, Oliver. You will be missed.
