PROM PICTURE TAKING TIPS: OUTSIDE LIGHTING .
Pick the shade if you can (north side of a building, pine trees make nice backdrops), flat/indirect lighting is always better.
If shade isn't an option, put your subject's back to the sun and fill with a flash. (Flash is only effective within 10 feet of your subject). INSIDE LIGHTING .
Put your back to a large window so your subject(s) is facing the window and use that natural light to fill their face/eyes OUTSIDE LOCATIONS .
It's in early spring in MN 😟 Probably the ugliest month of the year. No flowers, so use evergreens, green grass, hardscapes (boulders/retaining walls/cool fences or gates) and urban locations). If we have it, and you're brave, embrace fresh snow. It's beautiful. Keep coats on until it's time to snap, toss them aside briefly to shoot and then cover up again. INSIDE LOCATIONS .
Fun indoor locations include churches, community centers and hotels with nice lobbies, **big north facing windows**, or a neat staircase + greenhouses can be cool for small groupings. Make sure the subjects always face large windows, photographer keep your back to the window. *ALWAYS ASK PERMISSION FIRST.
