Spent some time exploring Downtown Tulsa the other day, with one main goal in mind—seeing the brand-new Leon Russell mural on the Grooper Building in the Blue Dome District.

I loved the previous mural, but years of Oklahoma weather had taken their toll, so it was time for a fresh look. Artist JEKS created this incredible new tribute to Leon Russell, and what amazes me most is that it was done entirely with spray paint. The detail and realism are unbelievable!

The opposite side of the building is just as impressive, featuring an astronaut with the Tulsa skyline reflected in the helmet visor. It's one of those murals that makes you stop and stare for a while.

I also learned something new during this little photo adventure. Even though the Grooper Building sits on 3rd Street, we wandered over to 2nd Street and I spotted a Historic Route 66 sign that reads "1926–1932." I had no idea Route 66 once ran through that part of downtown. I always assumed it had always followed 11th Street through Tulsa. It's amazing how much local history you can discover when you slow down and look around.

𝑪𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒅𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑼𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒘𝒂𝒍

I originally headed downtown and Route 66 to take a few photos and had no idea I was about to stumble upon what may be a once-in-a-lifetime scene.

Holy Family Cathedral in Tulsa is currently undergoing a massive restoration after sustaining damage during the Father's Day storm of 2023. Seeing this 113-year-old cathedral completely surrounded by scaffolding was incredible. With workers replacing the copper roof and restoring the towering spires, the church looked more like a medieval cathedral under construction than a modern-day landmark.

For over a century, this beautiful cathedral has been part of Tulsa's skyline, and I don't think it's ever undergone work on this scale before. Watching such an important piece of Tulsa history being carefully preserved was something I simply couldn't pass up photographing.

Sometimes the best photo opportunities are the ones you never planned to find.

Thrilled to share that this 30” x 20” framed print of the iconic River Walk in San Antonio, Texas has found a new home right here in the Alamo City!

There’s something special about seeing local art stay connected to the place that inspired it — from the historic stone bridge to the colorful river barge drifting beneath, this scene captures the energy and charm that makes San Antonio so unforgettable.

Thank you to my collector for supporting my photography and bringing a piece of the River Walk into your home. I hope this artwork brings back wonderful memories for years to come!

I’ve been wanting to check out the new Route 66 park in Sapulpa for weeks, and we finally made it out to see Historic Bridge No. 18 at Rock Creek. We took our little dog Ozzy for a walk, enjoyed the beautiful weather, and of course I snapped a few photos along the way.

One of the funniest parts of the day was helping a lady who got her magnet stuck to the bridge while magnet fishing. My husband Michael managed to get it loose for her because she definitely didn’t want to go home and tell her 95-year-old dad she lost his magnet! Those things must be expensive — and wow, did it ever work well!

A little history on the bridge: Historic Bridge No. 18 at Rock Creek is one of the most unique surviving engineering landmarks along old Route 66 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Built in 1924 by the Concrete and Steel Construction Company of New York, this rare Parker through truss bridge carried travelers across Rock Creek during the glory days of America’s Mother Road. At 120 feet long and 18 feet wide, it was considered a modern design for its time and is now one of only two surviving Parker through truss bridges connected to historic Route 66.

One of the coolest features is its original brick roadway deck, with many bricks still dating back to 1924. Between the old steel framework, weathered brick, and Oklahoma scenery, the bridge has such an amazing nostalgic feel. I’m really glad Sapulpa restored it as part of the Route 66 park project so future generations can continue to enjoy this piece of history.

There’s something mesmerizing about the spaces most people pass by without noticing. Beneath a bridge along the Oklahoma River in downtown Oklahoma City, glowing green reflections and repeating pillars created this dramatic urban abstract scene. The symmetry, light, and stillness transformed ordinary architecture into something almost surreal.

Night photography always reminds me that cities have a completely different personality after dark.

Unpublished photo from Caddo Lake

We were heading way back into the swamps of Caddo Lake when I captured this moment. The vegetation on the water was getting thick, almost like a floating carpet, and we had to carefully follow the narrow boat trails just to make our way through.

But when the trees opened up to this view… it was completely worth it. The still water, the reflections, and those beautiful fall colors draped in Spanish moss—it felt like stepping into another world.

There’s just something about the Blue Whale of Catoosa… no matter how many times you see him, he always brings a smile to your face 😊

From wide scenic views to those up-close “grin” moments, this Route 66 legend has been welcoming travelers, families, and dreamers for generations. Whether you’re stopping for the first time or the fiftieth, he never loses that playful charm that makes you feel like a kid again.

And here’s the exciting part… he’s getting a BIG makeover! 🎉
With the 100th birthday of Route 66 coming up, plans are underway for park renovations and a brand-new visitors center—making this already iconic stop even more special for future travelers. I can't wait for them to finish and for it to open back up!

Same smile… fresh new chapter. 💙

If you’ve ever passed by, you know—he’s not just a roadside attraction… he’s a memory waiting to happen.

𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒎𝒏 𝑺𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒍𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒐

I’ll be honest—swamps have always made me a little nervous. There’s just something about the thought of snakes and gators that’ll get your imagination going real quick. But Caddo Lake completely changed that for me… especially in the fall.

I’ve never seen autumn quite like this—every color on the wheel showing up at once, reflecting across the water like a painting. It’s easily become one of my favorite places I’ve ever photographed.

What makes Caddo so unique is that you really have to be out on the water to experience it—especially the hidden stretches of Big Cypress Bayou that feed into the lake. Thankfully, we had our pontoon, which made it easy (and a whole lot more comfortable!) to move around and find scenes like this.

And as always, my husband was my captain—whether it’s a car or a boat, he’s the one getting me where I need to be so I can focus on capturing the moment. He navigated us deep into some pretty tight, winding spots… and I’ll admit, there were a few times I wasn’t entirely sure we’d make it back out!

But moments like this make it all worth it. 🍂
