The Gunnison River runs through Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, over half a mile below these cliffs. The canyon is so steep these sections only see 30 minutes of sun most days. Sadly this National Park is also experiencing devastating wildfires while the park is closed. I was in the area last fall, and am so very grateful we woke up at 4am to arrive in time to catch sunrise.

Some of the highlights from a fantastic trip to the BWCA in late September 2021 (Entry Point 62). I've been fortunate to travel quite a bit these last few years, but the beauty and serenity of this wilderness is about as good as it gets. Sipping a cup of coffee while the fog rolls over a calm lake at sunrise might just be perfection.

I can think of few things more calming than a calm lake with a glasslike reflection. Bonus points for complete silence, no cars, boats or cell phones and paddling 8 miles to get there.
