Silver Lining Photography by Julie Schreiter I am a natural-light photographer. I'm slowly transitioning from photographing strictly as a hobby to making a few bucks doing what I love.

Thomas was my last senior to photograph in 2020. His session was on a chilly day in December but that didn't damper anyone's spirits. Thomas's natural ability to pose and his infectious smile made him a joy to work with. We had to move quickly in the cold weather but Thomas took me by surprise when he found moments to elevate the photo shoot to stop and just have some fun and in turn, made his senior photo shoot more about capturing memories and less about taking pictures.

That day, Thomas was a living example of one who took the time to "stop and smell the roses." New studies show that embracing this cliché is sound advice and suggest that appreciating the meaningful things and people in our lives and recognizing the sources of goodness may play a larger role in our overall happiness. In today's fast-paced world, filled with noise and chaos, we can all benefit greatly by being present in every moment and live life with a deeper gratefulness for the world around us,

I met Alex's parents a few years ago when I photographed Alex's older brother for his senior portraits. It was great to reconnect with his parents during the photo shoot and Alex's go-with-the-flow attitude made for a great photo shoot. I was blown away while editing his pictures at the vast range of facial expressions that Alex possesses. The ability to be versatile paired with a good attitude are wonderful skills to have in a professional setting but also in life. I wish Alex the best as he finishes his senior year and wherever life takes him!

I have known Jozlyn and her family since she was about 4 years old. I had the honor of photographing senior portraits for her two of her older brothers. When her mom texted me last summer asking if I could do some senior pictures, I racked my brain as to who she was referring to and then realized that Jozlyn is was an incoming senior! How time flies! We had such a blast during our photo shoots and I am in awe of the gorgeous young woman Jozlyn has grown into!

Katie and Bob returned to the location of their wedding to capture their family photos with their newest son on a beautiful fall day. And with the season of harvest just around the corner, it's the perfect time to gather in the things that bring joy, giving meaning to the sentiment that family is life's greatest blessing!

I've known Noah since he was a baby, in fact I still remember visiting him in the hospital after he was born. It's been surreal to watch him grow up into the man you see in these pictures. This shoot also marks the first time I've ever had to cancel a shoot due to snow, in October.

So Noah wasn't thrilled to have his pictures taken and it was pretty cold that day, but he approached the photo shoot full force with intention of finding fun during the photo shoot when he could, and he succeeded because there was lots of laughter and some pretty funny pictures in his gallery.

His attitude towards the shoot reminded me of a quote from Mary Poppins (sorry Noah, the Disney one, although Disney also owns Marvel...) "In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and - snap! the job's a game." Finding the fun in a task he didn't really want to do showed maturity on his part. The ability to not only accept a situation as is, but to elevate it with some humor and laughter, is a wonderful character trait to have.

Noah will encounter many unpleasant situations throughout his life, but taking the high road and remaining positive will make the experience for him and those around him a little more tolerable, something we all can appreciate. Evidence shows that being positive is not just a nice, feel-good way to live but, in fact, is the way to live if you want better health, meaningful relationships and greater individual and team success. I have such great pride and admiration in Noah because he has the tools to make the world a better place, and those who know him well are lucky to be in his company.

So I've been doing senior portrait sessions for a few years now and many seniors come in with a bit of nervousness about the shoot. There have been some who are very comfortable in front of the camera but Kylie exuded a confidence that I have never seen in someone so young. She put a lot of thought into her senior shoot, from her outfits to her facial expressions, and remained committed to them throughout the entire shoot.

Having so much self-confidence at such a young age is truly a gift. Most adults spend decades finding confidence in themselves. Having self-confidence is the gateway to finding true happiness, where you are truly content and feel proud of yourself. Dropping your worries and outside expectations and embracing your unique qualities and talents is not an easy task, so I applaud Kylie for finding confidence because it will take her far in life. Anyone that knows Kylie personally can attest to this, because she makes the world around her a better place just by being herself.

I have to say, this shoot was a lot of fun. Though it was a little unseasonably cold, we had a great time. As a fellow Hufflepuff myself, I loved that she wore her Hufflepuff uniform during the school portion. and gave me the opportunity to be more creative with some of her photos.

Lovely:
(adjective)
1. having a beauty that appeals to the heart or mind as well as to the eye, as a person or a face.

Jazlynn was a referral client, and though I didn't know her well, it wasn't long before I saw that there is a happy spirit about her that was fun to capture "on film". She was easy going and her smiles were full of joy.

When she described my work as "lovely", I was taken aback, because although the word "lovely" is very common, at the same time it is not used enough in our everyday conversations. I feel there is a depth to the word "lovely" that describes something beyond the surface. Certainly the word "lovely" is the perfect word to describe Jazlynn because I feel there is so much more to her than what you see on the outside.

I've known Mason for many years and was delighted when I was asked to photograph his senior portraits.

The thing that stands out with boy's senior portraits is finding the pictures where you can still see the boy, but also finding pictures where you can start to see the man he will grow into. As someone who watched Mason grow up, seeing the boy and the man in him was truly remarkable (I can't imagine how his parents feel at this moment).

This past fall was not great in terms of weather and photography. We endured a hot summer that stayed into fall and saying that mosquitoes were a nuisance is an understatement. The mosquitoes were really bad during this shoot, but Mason never uttered a single complaint and kept a great big smile on his face.

Keeping a positive attitude is the foundation for building good character traits needed for success in life. The world is filled with hardship and challenges but remaining positive and optimistic is the gateway to achieving your goals, living your dreams, and even changing the world.

Rain, rain, go away. This session was one of many attempts to schedule a family portrait session. Every time we scheduled a shoot, it would rain. Finally the family decided to do an indoor shoot at Lambeau Field, which was such an amazing place to take photos. I guess you could call it a silver lining.

I've known the Michalek family for many years and was so happy when they asked me to take some family photos, since they haven't had a formal session in several years. This is the type of family that makes my job fun. They make an awesome team!
