Are you expecting a baby or hoping to be soon?
Have you heard about using a doula during labor and the benifits? Do you know what a doula is and what they do? Would you hire a doula if it was FREE(UPHP covers 100%)?
Hi my name is Jen and I am a Birth Doula/Birth Photographer. My doula services include birth photography!
What is that?
A birth doula is a professional support person who helps families during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. Their main focus is non-medical support—being a steady presence to guide, comfort, and advocate for the birthing person. And, I am a professional photographer and when you hire me for my doula services if you choose you get my photography services included.
Here’s what a birth doula typically does:
During Pregnancy-
*Meets with the family to learn about their wishes, values, and birth preferences.
*Provides information about birth options, interventions, and comfort techniques.
*Helps create a birth plan, if desired.
During Labor & Birth-
*Emotional support: reassurance, encouragement, helping the birthing person feel safe and confident.
*Physical support: massage, counter-pressure, breathing guidance, suggesting positions, using comfort tools (like a birthing ball or warm compress).
*Informational support: explaining what’s happening, helping weigh options, reminding of preferences.
*Advocacy: supporting the family’s wishes in communication with medical staff (without replacing the role of healthcare providers).
After Birth (immediately postpartum)-
*Assists with initial bonding and breastfeeding if desired.
*Helps the family process their birth experience.
*Provides referrals for postpartum support if needed.
📌 Important difference: A birth doula is not a doctor, nurse, or midwife—they don’t perform medical tasks like checking vital signs, delivering the baby, or giving medication. They work alongside medical providers to give continuous personal support.
