After 10 years, 42 weddings, 274 sessions, and a million memories, I am putting down the camera. There are no words to express what this business has meant to me. It has brought me so much joy and connection. It has taught me patience, resilience, leadership, and communication. To have been able to be a part of the milestones of so many incredible people and to capture love in its purest form has been nothing less than an honor.
It is in the interest of remembering it that way that I am stepping away.
I love photography. I want to love it forever, and I know that I won’t if the stress continues to outweigh the joy. I want to be the best version of myself for my friends, my family, and me. In this season of life in which I am teaching full time with lots of extracurricular sprinkles on top, I need a little extra space to be able to do that.
I love y’all, and I am so immensely grateful to have a community that made Jocelyn Elzer Photography what it was. Thank you.

Hey, it’s me! From before!
Prior to my post on New Year’s Eve, I’d been pretty quiet on my business socials. It wasn’t because I was taking a break from photography; in fact, it was the opposite. I wasn’t taking a break from anything.

I’ve always been a busy person, and I count myself as lucky. I just love a lot of things, and it’s been that way for as long as I can remember. Once I started teaching, it became harder to sustain. Then, I started grad school on top of it. If you know me personally, you know that this past fall was one of my most difficult. When you go through times in your life in which you’ve taken on too much, most people’s advice to you—justifiably so—is to let something go. I won’t. I look at this business I’ve built and the incredible people I’ve met as a result, and I won’t let it go.

It has to change, though. The past year has shown me the value of my time, as well as what happens when I don’t take that seriously. I am a sucker for the idea of new beginnings, and for me, this year is going to be about balance. What I want is to create space to be all of myself, not just the bits and pieces that survive the burnout.

That’s what Jocelyn Elzer Photography’s new makeover is all about. It may not look like much, but it’s me, and it reflects the changes I’m making for myself this year. I’ll be booking less, but it’s in the interest of being able to love it more. Check out the new site if you’re curious, and if you’re not, I hope you have a joyful and peaceful new year. 🖤
