Somewhere between the Roxy Cinema and Film Forum, began refining his own ideas about performance. After moving to New York in 2019, he found an education in the city’s movie theaters. Frederick Wiseman showed him what could happen when people seemed to forget the camera was there. Agnès Varda opened his eyes to the process of filmmaking becoming part of the picture itself, while John Cassavetes revealed how closely a scene could move to the rhythms of life.

The more Fogelmanis watched, the more those ideas found their way into how he approached acting himself. What interested him on screen became what he began searching for in his own performances: the point where acting stops feeling like a performance at all. It’s an instinct he’ll bring to the stage this fall in The New Group’s world premiere of Patrick Hamilton’s ‘Rope,’ as he continues to find the work that feels true to him.
