"Apocalypse"
Mother Ocean literally threw up her stomach lining on the shore near Dockweiler / Playa Del Rey. It is silt, sludge, mud or some type of clay-like substance that could only have come from the ocean floor. It must have washed up during the high surf and then formed solid cliffs that don't wash away as easily as the sand cliffs we see in MB.
There are toxic warning signs further down the beach, but not near this area. I talked to a lifeguard about this and he didn't suggest I leave, so I'm guessing this area is safe to be in. He also said that "this is nothing compared to what's coming." π³
The black that feathers in is actually black sand. It is not oil. It is ugly, yet beautiful. It looks like death, yet it is very much alive. I was just in awe! Or maybe I'm just the curious type because I went back twice to photograph this.
This is a rare sight and hard to see from the road. If you want to explore, it is at the far north end of Dockweiler beach where the airport hills turn into residential homes again. From the road you can see these mini boulders on the sand near the water, it doesn't seem like anything exciting, that is the area. The boulders are actually chunks of the clay substance that have broken off from these mini shoreline cliffs.
