The Light She Left Project
In honor of my mother, and offered to families holding close a loved one in the midst of a terminal diagnosis.
Today would have been my mother’s birthday.
Six years ago, she died from a very aggressive and terminal type of cancer. One of the last gifts my mother left me was the understanding of how precious our lives truly are. This one wild and precious life. Every morning we get to wake up, open our eyes, hear the birds, smell fresh cut grass, feel the wind in our hair, and witness another sunrise and another sunset.
In the years since losing her, my belief in the power of photographs has only deepened. They are not just another square in the grid. They become legacy. Tangible proof of love. Something to hold when the person we love can no longer be held in the same way.
I know how daunting this chapter can be. How emotionally and financially draining it can feel. How often, in the midst of appointments, fear, caregiving, and simply trying to make it through the day, families may not think to have these moments documented until it feels too late.
This project is my way of honoring the light she left behind.
Each month, I will be offering a tender few free heirloom sessions for families walking through the heartbreak of a terminal diagnosis. These sessions are meant to be gentle, unhurried, and rooted in love. A way to preserve touch, closeness, hands held, faces remembered, and the quiet beauty of being together.
There is no session fee, no required purchase, and no expectation beyond simply receiving what is offered with love.
If your family, or a family you know, is facing this kind of diagnosis, please reach out.
With so much tenderness,
Celia
