The northern lights from the January 20th storm.

The pulsing during this storm was incredible and we even saw it close to overhead very briefly. It was cold but it was worth it for this one. I knew it was going to be good when I could see it even before getting out of the car. Definitely a top 3 storm but something special about being out seeing it with the snow adds to it.

Capturing the Wolf Moon over Acadia this past weekend. Just a slight bit of atmos distortion but it was beautiful from the seawall. A couple more from some snowy hikes around Old Town.

Moonrise shot on a super-telephoto 800mm which is what gives you that incredible super moon view, but also it was indeed a super moon. This one lived up to its reputation as a super cold moon too.

"The Hunter in the Stars"

Milky Way core overlooking Hunter's Head in Acadia. I'm so happy how this one turned out. It took some experimenting to get everything to line up but the conditions and location all came together on this one. I did catch some "airglow" in this but it really is one of my favorites.

Finally catching up on my photos, Aurora from Old Town on Friday night just after midnight, Bar Harbor/Acadia on Saturday night. The cold is definitely starting to set it in but the awesome red pillar that popped up in seconds suddenly Saturday night was worth the wait. It was incredible with the meteor shower and the big exploding fireball Friday as well, what a shock and awe moment that was.

I finally got a chance to process my images from this past Sunday's incredible aurora. It was definitely a test of patience though with the clouds but I just had to give it a shot and sure enough my hunch that they would clear was correct. They actually made it that much more unique and stunning. This one was definitely in line with the October storm but never quite extended to the point of overhead. None the less the conditions once it did clear were perfect for about an hour until the moon rose and things began to wash out and weaken some. I loved capturing the moonrise with it and more excitingly I also captured some real-time video I'll share soon once I finish processing it.

Wow what a spectacular little show we got tonight and some great cooler temps with the dark skies. Aurora was visible to the naked eye with strong pillars for around an hour although not a lot of color to the eye. With a camera you could really take it in. This was night two of attempting to capture since I just barely missed any decent pillars last night and the conditions just weren't quite right either but it did later build into some nice green curtains later around 2 long after I left. Seeing major substorm activity and lots of activity during the day, I suspected we might be in for a good show and was very lucky to be there right at the best time. Persistence definitely paid off today.
