Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dads out there! As a birth photographer, I've had the pleasure of capturing some of the most incredible moments as fathers meet their children for the first time.

As we reflect on the importance of fatherhood, I want to take a moment to talk about the value of birth photography. Becoming a father is one of the most incredible experiences a man can have, and the day his child is born is a moment he will never forget. However, in the midst of all the emotions and excitement, it can be difficult to fully experience the moment while also trying to capture it all in photos.

By hiring me as your professional birth photographer, fathers can focus on being present in the moment and experiencing the full range of emotions that come with welcoming a new life into the world. They don't have to worry about setting up the perfect shot or missing out on any important moments - I take care of all that.

I gave birth like a wild animal...

And I'm so glad that I did.

I went into my cave of darkness, and growled "don't touch me".

I howled, writhed, pounded, screamed, and begged for rest. And I rested, breathed, prayed, thanked God, laughed, joked, smiled, and even said "this isn't that bad".

I didn't invite a midwife, doctor, nurse, doula, or professional of any kind into my space. A wild animal doesn't require any "experts" to birth her baby.

I didn't get a single test, exam, check-up, or scan during my pregnancy.

I just trusted God, trusted my body, trusted birth.

At no point during this intense fire-walk of a birth did I think something might be wrong. I was in tune with every sensation within me. I knew exactly where baby was the whole time.

And when my sun ☀️ arrived earthside... I experienced joy, euphoria, and bliss like a wild animal.

I exploded with ecstasy.

And I was so aware, as the observer of my own experience, how powerful a truly intuitive birth can be. Every word I spoke, every movement I took, came from within me. Nothing was suggested. Including the way I met my baby. I spoke to him. I kissed him. I held him close. I exclaimed. He cried. We were one.

No other being was involved in our process. A few close, chosen people were allowed to witness from a distance.

It was just me and him. Meeting each other as two souls, reborn together in total power.

All mothers deserve to know that feeling. It's available to you, women.

The Babinski reflex, also known as the plantar reflex is commonly tested soon after birth and during routine wellness check ups.

Healthy newborns are able to demonstrate a number of reflex actions that protect them from dangers in their new environment.

In babies a normal babinski reflex means the big toe flexes upwards while the other toes fan out when the foot is stroked from heel to toe.

It is super normal in babies, and a sign that the brain and spinal cord (aka the central nervous system) are working together well.

This reflex disappears as the child gets older. It may disappear as early as 12 months.
