I survived the rain, heat, wind, and long hours at the Lakefront Festival of Art at the Milwaukee Art Museum. I still got to sneak out a few times before the show opened to take some film photos with my Nikon. Next up is Madison’s Art On the Square in July. Thank you to some of my friends in the Wisconsin Film Photographers who came to say hi!

Thank you to another great group of photographers who came out for my Details in Nature photography workshop on Saturday. It’s always fun to spend a day getting to know fellow photographers and sharing tips on capturing the beauty of Wisconsin with you!

So what have I been up to? I’ve been busy in the darkroom creating prints and framing to get ready for art fairs. First up is Lakefront at the Milwaukee Art Museum on June 12th, 13th, and 14th! This summer I’m focusing on my darkroom work at art fairs. I’m really looking forward to sharing my darkroom prints in person. I’m calling the new body of work “Around Wisco Analog” and may start sharing more of my film photography here on this page.

Nazan and I spent a week on vacation camping in Wyalusing State Park and Wildcat Mountain State Park. We had one of the campsites on top of the bluff at Wyalusing overlooking the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers. Being a professional photographer, I get to travel, but once in a while I take a real vacation and leave the “real” cameras at home. I did take a few rolls of film with a Holga plastic camera and a pinhole camera. You’ll have to wait to see them until I develop the film!

This weekend you can find me with my Ice Age Trail book at the Cafe Wren stop of the Open Doors Art Tour in Luck, Wisconsin. Cafe Wren is a great small town coffee shop I featured in the book on pages 220 and 221. It will be great to be back in Luck and Cafe Wren!

A little about Cafe Wren from the book- “Stephanie Lundeen is the owner of Café Wren, located a half-mile north of Luck where the business motto is, “Serving up food, coffee, art, health and happiness since 2003.” Stephanie is active in the Luck community and a supporter of the Ice Age Trail and the Gandy Dancer State Trail, both of which run right behind the cafe, offering travelers a spot to eat, enjoy some local art, and take a break from their journey. I must have had a dozen people recommend that I stop in Café Wren and meet Stephanie when I was passing through Luck. By far, it was the most recommended stop when I was planning this trip. It was good advice, not only for the food and atmosphere, but to meet Stephanie and her crew. She is clearly someone who cares about her community, and I can confidently pass on that recommendation to stop at Café Wren.”

The last time I was at Cafe Wren in Luck, WI… I walked there! Next weekend I’m returning with the completed book. I’ll be in the Cafe Wren stop of the Open Doors Art Tour with some art and the books. I featured Cafe Wren on pages 220-221. This will be the first time I’ve done an art fair on the west end of the Ice Age Trail. I’m looking forward to it.

I took a little trip last week to see the sandhill crane migration on the Platte River in Nebraska. It’s one of North America’s great migration events and it’s simply amazing to witness in person. The photos can never come close to doing it justice. But it was a fun getaway in Miss Goldfinch to kick off the camping season. I’m looking forward to getting out more as the weather warms up.
