The Mid-Continent Railway Museum near Baraboo is fun place to photograph for someone like me who loves detail photos of metal and rust! It's one of our stops in my Driftless photography workshop this weekend.

I spent several days camping last week at Devil's Lake State Park preparing and scouting for my upcoming Driftless photography workshop in the Baraboo area. The Baraboo Hills are full of beautiful places to explore and photograph.

The charming river town of McGregor, Iowa is just across the river from Prairie du Chien and has a lovely downtown with antique stores and coffee shops. Including Antiques 310 owned and operated by Marty Kahler for the past 24 years. Just outside of town is Pikes Peak State Park where there is a great view of the confluence of the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers.

Boscobel is another beautiful river town in the Driftless Area. I will be offering a "River Towns" photography workshop next spring where we photograph some of the awesome small towns along the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers. Stay tuned for more details.

A NEW WORKSHOP! I am working on adding a new photography workshop I’m calling “River Towns” that I will be leading next spring in the Driftless Area. It will be based in the historic and picturesque town of Prairie du Chien at the confluence of the Mississippi River and Wisconsin River. Prairie du Chien was one of Wisconsin’s earliest settlements dating back to early explorers and the fur trade. Before that people have called this place home going back thousands of years with the cultures that built the mounds found just across the Mississippi in what is now Effigy Mounds National Monument. There’s a lot to explore and photograph in these beautiful river towns. Stay tuned for more info on this great workshop. Here’s some photos from a 4 day scouting trip last week.

I survived the rain, heat, wind, and long hours at the Lakefront Festival of Art at the Milwaukee Art Museum. I still got to sneak out a few times before the show opened to take some film photos with my Nikon. Next up is Madison’s Art On the Square in July. Thank you to some of my friends in the Wisconsin Film Photographers who came to say hi!

Thank you to another great group of photographers who came out for my Details in Nature photography workshop on Saturday. It’s always fun to spend a day getting to know fellow photographers and sharing tips on capturing the beauty of Wisconsin with you!

So what have I been up to? I’ve been busy in the darkroom creating prints and framing to get ready for art fairs. First up is Lakefront at the Milwaukee Art Museum on June 12th, 13th, and 14th! This summer I’m focusing on my darkroom work at art fairs. I’m really looking forward to sharing my darkroom prints in person. I’m calling the new body of work “Around Wisco Analog” and may start sharing more of my film photography here on this page.

Nazan and I spent a week on vacation camping in Wyalusing State Park and Wildcat Mountain State Park. We had one of the campsites on top of the bluff at Wyalusing overlooking the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers. Being a professional photographer, I get to travel, but once in a while I take a real vacation and leave the “real” cameras at home. I did take a few rolls of film with a Holga plastic camera and a pinhole camera. You’ll have to wait to see them until I develop the film!
