English seaside vibes

Hiking in the dappled forest light alongside the lake started off with “hey, do you want to join us for sushi tonight?”. The answer was obviously yes. So as ducks preened themselves in the lapping waves nearby, Raf made a sushi reservation. And then they frolicked, hand-in-hand, in the pebbled water and climbed the nearby rock wall reminiscent of England and partially expecting a flock of sheep to show up. They spun and twirled and climbed in rich golden rays. As dusky blue fell, we flipped on our car headlights, waved goodbye to the “English seaside”, then drive a few minutes into the heart of Downtown Madison for sushi.

Beatrix Potter Meets High Tea Wedding

Backyard brunch in the garden. Honeybees hummed and Jack Jack the orange cat twitched his whiskers, watching as china tea cups were slurped from and clinked back onto their saucers. French toast and maple syrup wafted from the white tent and out into the sun soaked garden.

Dr. and Mr. has a very good ring to it. And so, under chandlers covered in summer florals, they shared tea, shared in front of their nearest and dearest what love meant to them, and walked out, hand in and, as Dr. and Mr.

Oops of champagne and crackles of sparkler fireworks chimed into to the merry laughter. They got ready together in their room, helping each there dawn their white suit jacket, and pinning their majestic floral lapels. Zak & Josiah possess a rare ability to be present. In the quiet moments right before they walked into their ceremony together, they held hands and took a deep break together. We saw moments like this multiple times throughout our morning with them. Zak and Josiah, I think it’s safe we’d all do well to take a leaf out of your book of being present!

Joy to the rafters.

All of the people you love most under the same roof, at a spot where your favorite childhood memories took place, with butterflies lazily looping among late summer wild flowers. There is a such a luxury to those moments of pause almost the business of a wedding day. Kelsey and Jacob didn’t rush that stillness.

Rocking chairs creaked as cocktail glasses formed condensation beads on the patio overlooking the prairie. Voices hummed all around, matching the songs of the crickets at dusk.

Simply, perfectly, Kelsey and Jacob. Intentionality meets belly laughs and tender hearted tears.

This was a really really good day.

Running club x Ren Faire

It’s where life threw them together, and where they accidentally were separated from the running club group and spent an hour wondering the faire grounds together. The scent of turkey legs wafted through the air, but Claire and Hunter were focused on getting to know each other.

Now, lightning bugs flicker as they race each other on the track on a humid Milwaukee night. Claire’s hair catches the last drop of sunshine as Hunter swings her up into his arms. He describes her as tough and capable, but the most profoundly kind and genuine person you’ll ever meet. She describes how he doesn’t mind slowing down (literally in running and metaphorically in life) to wait for her to catch up.

While their engagement session included much less turkey legs, it did include a lot of running ;)

Mini Fans & Martini Towers

The million and one tiny moments that aren’t on the timeline are the ones we focus on the most, because they matter the most. Like Jenn’s childhood dog greeting her at the front door, Grandma waving to the soon-to-be newlyweds from the street below during their first look, Nick holding a half drunk martini and Jenn’s dress train in one hand and a battery operated hand with his new wedding band in the other, and the tiny bee that was DETERMINED to collect pollen from Nick’s wooden boutonniere. Those moments.

Sweet sweet Jenn and Nick. They have THE biggest hearts. And if you’ve met them once, they’ve already wrapped you right on into all that love.

We witnessed it in the emotion filled tear drops sliding down the faces of the aunties, as Nick and Jenn took turns sharing their handwritten vows. We saw it in how Jenn dedicated the bouquet that she had so loving hand-made, to her mom. How they made sure to spend time at their childhood homes on their wedding day. The way they supplied fans of every variety for their guests. And even in how they passed out Santa hats to everyone on the dance floor so that they could ALL celebrate Christmas in July, together, with all of the people they hold near and dear under one roof.

A humid summer night with Jenn, Nick, and everyone they love? We’re endlessly grateful for it.

Early morning gorge hiking in Wisconsin

Fog rolled over the farm fields as we drove to our meeting spot - a remote parking lot tucked between hills. Parfrey’s Glen is one of the most unique places to explore, and it also happens to be Tim and Christie’s favorite.

As the sun rose higher into the early morning sky, they grabbed their picnic with Christie’s scratch made bread and clinking jars of ruby red jam and silky honey. In the middle of the creek there was a tiny patch of raised sand. There they reminisced about their first year of marriage, pointed out the ridiculous amount of millipedes that had made their home on the creek rocks, and enjoyed water bottle brewed tea ;)

Packing up, we splashed through fairy pools of water, wondered over the leafy ferns and cliffs that soared above our heads. The trail, still quiet in the early morning, was almost exclusively all theirs. Dappled sun patches burst through as we reached a small waterfall near almost the sandstone. Christie and Tim splashed, laughed, pointed out more millipedes, and laughed some more.

And of course we couldn’t end without grabbing lunch together and stopping by Baraboo’s local bookshop. Let’s go hiking and bookstore-ing again, Tim and Christie!

“But are we still gonna eat hot dogs?!”

One never quite knows how they’ll respond in a high adrenaline situation until they’re in it. When Ben dropped to one knee, Emma could hardly catch her breath in the excitement. And when she finally did, she REALLY wanted to make sure they were still going to be roasting hot dogs over the fire together later.

And they did (though Ben dropped one so they were left to split three hot dogs between the two of them).

Roasting, toasting marshmallows to Ben and Emma!!!

Ben had reached out with a plan to surprise Emma with a couples photo session on their mini vacation to a cabin in the lush woods of Wisconsin. Emma was in on the planning…but not ALL of it. We worked behind the scenes with Ben to orchestrate how, when, and where he’d knock Emma socks off with a surprise proposal.

Somewhere between swinging upside down on tree branches, the out-of-breath laughs, and the “wait, one more photos up here” moments, Becca and Colin got engagement photos at Devil’s Lake state Park that didn’t feel like a photo shoot.

Their engagement session feels like like dusty sun rays, skipping over tree roots in white sneakers, and two humans who’d rather laugh their way up a trail while we collectively flap our sweat marks out to dry in the wind, than take life too seriously.

It felt like the adventure that only comes comes from spending a ridiculously hot summer evening hiking through some of the most epic views in Wisconsin, stopping every few minutes because one of us spotted a view, cracked a joke, or needed a water break ;)

Taco buffets + dancing on a rooftop over the Milwaukee skyline - this is summertime with Katie, Martin, and their crew.

Years of goodbyes, joys of reuniting and eating Kimchi together, lengthy green card processes, and finally, harmony. No more airport goodbyes.

Katie and Martin have a rare ability to accept with joy whatever comes their way in life. They are so excited to take road trips together now that they can live in the same country! And most of all, they’re excited to go rock climbing so they can look at each other’s butts ;)
