Oh my goodness. I loved being a part of Becca & Brady’s big day!! (B&B!!) It felt amazing to photograph where I grew up and to be one of the first to photograph at the stunning new reception venue recently built there! There was no lack of love in any room these two were in. No one walks away from them without feeling seen and loved… they are just simply the sweetest, and I am beyond happy for them! 🤍🌲

Colleen & Logan’s wedding day… gosh it was beautiful. In each speech it was clear how much holy confidence and humility these two exude. There was laughter, happy tears, and tons of joy. I can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for them. 🤍

Isaac and I are celebrating two years of marriage today! I just want to say, do what is important to you on your wedding day. There will be a lot of opinions surrounding how your wedding should look. Trends come and go, people will move on, but you and your spouse will remember the day you became one forever.

Best advice from my mom about the guest list: “It’s not a family reunion.” Don’t feel pressure to invite someone just because you are related if you hardly know them.

My best advice for Catholic couples: your nuptial mass is the only mass you will have as much of a say in as you ever will, soak it in! Isaac and I spent a lot of time deciding on the type of music, liturgy, and readings we wanted for our ceremony. It is an incredible opportunity to share the beauty of your faith with others!

Finally, don’t stress over every little aesthetic or detail of your wedding day. My best memories of our wedding day have literally nothing to do with any of that. My best memories are of the people we chose to surround ourselves with that day, and that includes our vendors. Fill your day with love, joy, and prayer, and you have everything you’ll need. 🤍

So I’ve got some news….
I am pivoting Kate Alley Photography. What does this mean? As I enter the thick of graduate school and pursuing my other passion of nutritional therapy, I’ve had to get really clear and picky about what I want KAP to look like.

As much as I LOVE being a part of wedding days and the beautiful sacrament, the lack of flexibility within the wedding industry doesn’t align well with my future endeavors.

This isn’t to say I’m giving them up all together and forever, but I am taking a major step back. That said, I WILL be focusing more on family, maternity, and lifestyle portraits. I’ll be soon rolling out fall/winter mini sessions and my full family session experience. Please share with anyone in the Twin Cities/Minnesota area who might be in need of these types of sessions!

This decision has been one of the hardest to make, I love my wedding couples so incredibly much. There is nothing like weddings, but through a lot of prayer this is the best plan of action for me and my family.

To my current wedding couples: Don’t worry! I am still ALL IN for you! I am completely honored to be a part of your big days!

I cannot wait to get your families, babies, and many other milestones in life captured forever! Thank you with all my heart for your love and support all these years as my business evolves. Be on the lookout for new offerings soon! Much love to you all! 🤍

“Why do wedding photographers cost so much?!”

It’s a frequent question or comment I hear thrown around as a wedding photographer, and I totally get it. Not everyone has the budget or ability to invest in a higher end photographer, and that’s okay.

But here’s the thing: We aren’t just photographers who only snap photos during a wedding day and then kick our feet up. We show up on your wedding day with a wealth of knowledge and experience in several areas of your big day. One of the biggest things is the knowledge and capacity to roll with the punches that inevitably happen on the wedding day. From knowing how to mend timelines that are running behind, wrangling friends/family with love, pinning corsages, being emotionally present for the couple for 8-10 hours straight so they have the best day possible, knowing how to handle different relational dynamics, knowing how to make on the spot decisions… notice how I didn’t even mention anything specifically related to photography?

There’s that too, of course. From handling constant light changes, unexpected rain or unexpected intense sun with little shade, the right angles to photograph from in all scenarios, keeping the couple comfortable while also having to be the one to say we need to keep things moving during family formals, to constantly scanning our surroundings for the next moment to photograph, all while delivering high quality images… you get my point. 😉

That doesn’t include the pre and post work that is involved with wedding photography either. It all adds up and it becomes clear why photographers charge what they charge. Most are undercharging! We wear 100 different hats, hold years of technical knowledge and experience, desire all the good for our couples, and still need to put food on our tables at the end of the day. I promise investing in a wedding photographer you trust and have evidence they serve their couples well will be something you cherish just as much as the photos they deliver.

Send your photographer some love during this emotionally/physically demanding time of year. 🤍

Liz + Adam’s spring engagement session was one of those that when I got home I immediately wanted to edit them! They were total naturals and the rain held off as we navigated around all the prom and graduation photography throughout the park. Can’t wait for their big day in just a few short months! 🤗

These two celebrate one year of marriage today! Kayla & Ben’s big day will always go down in my books as the windiest, hottest, April day you could imagine.
