It’s been a busy year yall and new work has been slow to solidify. Between starting a new job, getting a Hashimoto’s diagnosis, and everything that being a momma and a human entails I feel like it takes me forever sometimes to make new work. But this print I am so happy with. Finally getting some film shot, processed at home with my own hands, scanned with a new to me process in a make it work MacGyver fashion with what I had on hand, learning a new program extension to convert negatives, and learning how to manage my new printer has been a process yall. This one print this afternoon is a culmination of all that work. So thankful for time to be creative and for new work starting to take place and for the ability to explore the magic that is film again. Even if I have to do it in a new to me way. I’d love a darkroom and an enlarger but honestly that’s just not possible at the moment. I’m going to explore this weird intersection of analogue and digital for a while and see where it takes me. Thanks for allowing me to ramble and thanks for the moments of your time you take looking at my art. 💜

Finally ! A new YouTube video! It's a beast of a video (40 minutes!) and I hope it's not too boring but I wanted to share my honest to goodness first attempt at developing film in 20 years. I always want to share my successes with you along with my failures as well. We're all just people and no one is perfect all the time. Hope everyone is having a great Monday!

Yall. I can’t. This is from the second roll of film that I have processed at home. Dark, moody, and delicious. Atmosphere for days. I really can’t wait to get out and shoot this church again in color this time, but honestly this is such an exciting image for me. Back to shooting film again for the first time in 19 years, first time developing at home, first time scanning film with a camera, first time using new software to process negatives digitally. Goosebumpbs.

If you can’t tell I might be just slightly excited. I can’t begin to tell you how much my grant from the Mississippi Arts Commision has helped me.

Entirely too excited on a Tuesday. Have a great day and an even better week guys and dolls.

Sometimes I remind myself I do love tech and computers and learning new stuff.

All. On. My. Own.

Well…with a little help from YouTube and the internet. Figured out how to DSLR scan and process my negatives with stuff I already own. (For right now.) The results are so much better than I could have hoped for and put my old flatbed scanner images to absolutely SHAME. Onwards and upwards! I can progress with shooting film because I have a workflow to process my images. It’s sorta like working with an enlarger in the darkroom but less stinky and well I don’t need a whole big ass darkroom. New images soon!

Sometimes on a Friday night you brave the cold and the wind, frozen hands, and wet shoes and the universe graces you with something cool that you weren't expecting. I went out there for a completely different pic and ended up taking this one as I was walking away. This is straight out of the camera with just a tiny bit of adjustment to the contrast. Love a happy accident.
