Bobbie Bush Portrait Artist Open by appointment only. I specialize in custom mixed media paintings. I’m an artist that creates personalized fine art portraits and mixed media paintings.

Why Portraits are Important

In our over-scheduled lives, we often forget to stop and appreciate all that is around us, who is in our lives and what they truly mean to us. We might overlook the value of the present moment until it’s too late… after a child is grown, a family moves apart, or someone special is no longer with us. While most of us have the best intentions to have a portrait made, the problem is, we often get swept up in the demands of our everyday distractions, another year passes and our life becomes a collection of missed opportunities. For over 20 yrs, I’ve been working with children and families to successfully draw out their very best qualities and authentic expressions. Over time, I have found that a timeless portrait holds the key to capturing the memory who a person truly is, with all their innate charm & beauty, and that portrait serves as a daily reminder that they are loved and appreciated. I believe that a fine art portrait is a testament to one’s value, worth and sense of belonging.

Every year, these three women traveled to Florida for a beach getaway. A favorite snapshot captured one of those times together, a memory made even more meaningful to them now that her mom and aunt are no longer here.

Those treasured trips inspired her husband to commission a special birthday painting celebrating the wonderful memories they shared.

She got her first glimpse of the painting on her birthday, and now the canvas is in my studio as I add the finishing touches with oils, textures, and glazes.

I'm loving how this piece is coming along, but even more, I love the stories behind the paintings I'm asked to create.

“She’s my everything.”

That’s how 14-year-old Rosie describes Blue, her little Frenchie who came into her life at just the right time.

I first learned about Blue when Rosie’s mom visited my studio during the open studios event back in May. She shared with me that her daughter had been through a difficult time, and that Blue had been her angel through it all.

The finished portrait painting was a total surprise. Rosie arrived at my studio with her mom for the big reveal, and her reaction was absolutely pure delight.

“This is so incredible!”
“It's so HER.... exactly her!”

The details that make Blue unmistakably Blue were especially appreciated... her wonderfully crooked ear and that heart-shaped patch of fur on her chest.
“The heart… it’s so perfect.”

As Rosie talked about Blue, it became very clear why this gift from her mom meant so much. “She’s my everything. We do everything together. She’s my bestie.”

Her mom later shared that Rosie was near tears as they left the studio because she was so happy. I have to admit, hearing that warmed my heart. When a portrait brings that kind of emotion, I know I got something important right.

A portrait of a beloved companion captures all those familiar details that make them unmistakably them. But when it’s right, it captures more than just a likeness. It reflects the bond and love that made them so special in the first place.

Yes. Here in Salem, we love creative disruption. Building bridges not walls between small and large businesses, entrepreneurs and artists with local and state government as well as nonprofits. We owe so much gratitude to John Andrews and the Creative Collective MA for being a catalyst for positive “disruption” and making Salem a very special place to be a creator and business owner!

“REIMAGINED: A Modern Approach to Traditional Art” explores the transformation of the photographic image through a layered mixed media process, blending digital brushwork with oils, pastels, texture, and cold wax. The work moves between portraiture and place, where each piece evolves into something tactile, dimensional, and deeply felt.

Gallery Talk: Thursday June 4, 7-8pm
Exhibition Dates: May 2 – June 13, 2026
Hours: Friday–Sunday | 12–6pm (Summer Hours are coming!!)
