I got to shoot an event Sunday at Park Synagogue and wow, that building is just gorgeous! Had to take a few quick architectural shots of the space, especially given how nice the light was.

So on the last of my three days in Mobile, Alabama, I kind of ran out of most things on my To Do list, and wasn't sure if I should go back down to Dauphin Island, Alabama or explore more of the city or what. But I did still have Bayou La Batre still on my list, so thought I'd drive down there. It turned out to be the best day. Partially because of the weather, and also all the cool old shrimp boats and broken docks—and even an abandoned river boat!—but also because not having much on the itinerary let me really slow down a bit.

So I drove around the roads behind the boating companies and then followed a road right on the coast, toward Dauphin Island, stopping wherever there was something cool to look at or if I just wanted to sit on the rocks by the water for a while. I ended up at the bridge to the Island, but spent so much time chilling and photographing birds that I never made it over.

Anyway, it was a great day. And while it's hard to go to a new area and not try to explore everything possible, it was a good lesson in not planning too much, taking it as it comes, and trying to relax. :)

Mobile day 2: Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, Mobile coast, USS Alabama battle ship, and sunset at a Fairhope Yacht Club.

I was disappointed that I didn't really have or find a way to get onto the delta and explore the water. I didn't get to see any gators. But there were still a couple nice boardwalks along the water and it was a gorgeous day walking and driving around so, no complaints really.

Also, I really wasn't sure I'd go out of my way to see the battle ship but I happened to pass the park and it looked really cool—especially seeing the ship on the horizon from the highway—but it was cool seeing the ship up close. However, while I don't consider myself claustrophobic, I really didn't like being inside it and made a quick exit back out. It was small, cramped, confusing, and hot. No thanks. :)

One last post from this trip, coming soon. :)

More from Mobile, Alabama. After seeing the Bellingrath Gardens & Home, I continued down to Dauphin Island, Alabama. Here are shots of the things I saw on the drive, and on the island, including Fort Gaines/Clay County, Georgia.

Last week, I took a trip to Mobile, Alabama for a short Gulf Coast vacay. First stop was the Bellingrath Gardens & Home which was absolutely gorgeous, peaceful, and big! I wanted to stay and see more but had to work my way down to the coast. Anyway, my first photo dump includes the foggy CLE: Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport, sunset at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, an old Baptist church, and the Gardens/home. More to come!
