I met Miosha McDaniel when she participated in the Faces of Lynchburg project. Here is what I learned about her during our session:

Q: How long have you lived in the Lynchburg area?
A: 31 years
Q: What is a hidden gem in Lynchburg?
A: My family and I love walking downtown, the Bluff Walk is a fam favorite.
Q: Any community improvements you would suggest?
A: I think we are slowly moving (in) the right direction (hopefully) I love all the life being breathed back into this beautiful city.
Q: Any businesses you miss?
A: I miss Get Downtown! So much fun!
Q: Is there a memorable job you've had?
A: I worked at the YMCA for most of my professional career. My favorite area was working at the front desk because you meet so many different people. I’ve rubbed elbows with millionaires, and I’ve also worked closely with those working daily to get back on their feet. Every story was so different but beautiful at the same time.
Q: Anywhere you'd recommend for a first-timer visiting Lynchburg?
A: I make all friends go to a coffee shop with me for sure. In the summertime, a trip to Mister Goodies is a must as well. Then they just also have to experience one of the Riverfront movie nights.
Q: Anything else that you would like to share with the community?
A: From 9-5 you can find me working for Banker Steel, which I’ve enjoyed so much. But most days after work you’ll find me in a corner making someone listen to me tell them why everyone deserves a birth doula. I’m a birth doula, and lactation consultant and I’ve been blessed to serve so many women in the Lynchburg community for the last 3.5 almost 4 years!

UPDATE on the Faces of Lynchburg Project:

I am excited to kick off our lead-up to the Academy Center of the Arts show on November 6th, with our first excerpt (one of many!) from the project.

I met Cindy at one of the PREAM sessions. For those who don't know Cindy, she is a force of positive energy. We had so much fun getting to know each other. Small children don't have her energy levels.

Like Tia and PREAM, Cindy and Shannon at Aqua Zoo hosted this project as well. I am forever grateful for those who have supported me in the earliest stages of both my business and this project.

So if you get a chance to connect with Cindy, you should, and here is some of what she shared during our session.

Q: How long have you lived in the Lynchburg area?

A: 54 years

Q: What is a hidden gem in Lynchburg?

A: Magnolia Foods on Rivermont Ave.

Q: Any community improvements you would suggest?

A: I'd love to see food deserts in areas of our community eliminated.

Q: Any businesses you miss?

A: I do miss Coleman Shoes, Bowen Jewelry, and the Crown Sterling.

Q: Is there a memorable job you've had?

A: As a teenager, I worked in radio locally for an AM Christian music station and later in life, for a local streaming radio station. It taught me that multitasking is necessary to get anything done.

Q: Anything else that you would like to share with the community?

A: My community is an integral part of who I am. I am an advocate for education and for children and families in Lynchburg. Our city leadership and school system leadership must work together to give our children, families, and school faculties the facilities, tools, and support needed to develop the future leaders for Lynchburg and Central VA.
