You'd never know this session started off cold, with lots of wind, and a tree limb falling and nearly taking out the whole family 😬

Instead of freaking out, which would have been reasonable, they laughed it off (as we hightailed it out of the woods) and I knew this was going to be a fun session.

This is a family that truly likes each other. Yes, they also very clearly love one another, but I've found that in the middle of a busy life with young kids and jobs and school and A PANDEMIC that liking one another is sometimes the more difficult task.

It was such a joy to get to know them and capture all they love (and like) they share.

I was making pancakes for my kids when I received this text and y’all...I bawled. 😭

This year has been so hard for everyone in a million different ways, but there is still so much to fight for. I know it can be hard to see it when we’re just trying to make it through the day-but these relationships, these moments of joy and connection...that’s what it’s all about. ❤️

This is the reason I started photographing families other than my own. Deep down in my bones I truly believe that you, yes YOU, deserve to see your family the way I do...so full of love and beauty that the world is infinitely better for having you in it.

Let’s dive into some essential information about me so we can continue this internet relationship with eyes wide open, shall we?

I’m Kathryn and I’m the type who will drive completely out of the way for a drive-thru and while I’m there I’ll probably order a pastry with my iced coffee (because YOLO). 🥐 ☕️

For my enneagram enthusiasts here (my people!), I am a 9w8 and I’d love to hear what your type is too. Oh, and for good measure I’m also an INFP and a Pisces. Do with this information what you will. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ok, lastly, I feel like you need to hear about my most embarrassing character trait. This is an easy one.

So, early last year I started watching the Bachelorette for the first time and got completely obsessed. 🌹
And no, that actually isn’t the embarrassing part.
Alas, I wanted to further corrupt both my mind and my spirit, so I BOUGHT OLD SEASONS OF IT and binged THREE ADDITIONAL SEASONS…IN A SINGLE MONTH! Who does that?!?
Apparently, I do. 😬😬😬
I’m not proud of it, but it feels like an important part of my life story that you should know.

I know the newborn stage gets a lot of attention in photography (for good reason!) but how about this toddler and his mama? They’re just the sweetest 🥰
•
I didn’t do newborn photos with any of my kids, and it didn’t occur to me to do a session like this when they were older and I so wish I had!
Their little personalities really start shining at this age and the bond they have with mama is so strong. You can also usually capture a moment of mischief or wildness too, which adds a little spice to the session. 🤪
So consider this a nudge from a more seasoned mama that if you’ve been putting off pictures with the whole family because of crazy schedules, or you think the window has closed on this type of session because they’re not a newborn, just know that your bond is worth capturing no matter the stage your little one is in. ✨

This one goes out to the old married couples 😘

My husband and I celebrated our ninth anniversary this summer, and I’m so proud those years. In 2018 we went through a season that would have broken most marriages. Through the heartbreak, anger, and a hefty dose of therapy, we fought our way back to one another. Like most of the best things of life, it was so hard and so worth it.
•
That year taught me that marriages are worth celebrating. Once you’re married long enough you know how easy it is to get lost in the hustle of daily life. Identities shift more toward work or your roles as parents, and away from who you were together before life got crazy...just a man and a woman crazy in love (see also: a man and a man or a woman and a woman...I’m here for all the love 🌈 ). My goal here is to play a small part in making sure the love that started your family doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.
•
So just a heads up, when you book a session with me there’s a good chance I’m going to tell you to make out with your spouse for a minute. Just go with it and thank me later 😘
