I had so much fun making this ad. The best part was watching all of the 80s and 90s commercials for inspiration, especially the 1993 masterpiece Phone Relief.

The UpTakes app is not, in fact, UpTakes has never been this good. I love using my own product.

I’m about to put ad money behind this. Before I do what would make this ad better? Is there anything that’s confusing or drags on? Which jokes land? Would you download it? Brutal honesty is welcome in the comments.

Tested UpTakes Video Camera’s Quick Launch at the George Strait concert in Lubbock, Texas.
One press of the Action Button → app opens → camera starts recording automatically. No unlocking. No swiping. No fumbling.
Here’s how to set it up (iPhone 15 Pro or later):
1️⃣ Open the Shortcuts app
2️⃣ Tap the + to create a new shortcut
3️⃣ Tap “Add Action” → search “Open App” → select UptakesCam
4️⃣ Name it “Open UpTakes”
5️⃣ Go to Settings → Action Button → swipe to “Shortcut” → select “Open UpTakes”
That’s it. One press from anywhere — lock screen, home screen, pocket — and you’re recording.
