Today is a sad day. Fred our original brahma rooster and all around gentleman has passed away. He was almost 6yrs old and has been slowing down recently and we knew it probably wouldn’t be long. RIP Fredward, Verne will watch over the girls now. You were an amazing rooster and always took care of the girls. You fought many hawks and always let us know when someone new was around.

Cool flower seed starting required me to organize my seed holder and bulk seeds to be more accessible and easier to find for optimal seed starting time based on my garden plan and flower plan. Most of the flowers will go around the outside edge of the garden to attract beneficial insects/birds and deter harmful ones. Our bees love the flowers being right behind them and our garden has prospered because of the flowers. This is an important step and makes it beautiful in the process.

Removal and tilling. I hand pulled all the green grass/weeds. Thankfully Tom tilled the entire thing. Now it looks like a garden again! Planting all the plants on my deck will start tomorrow and continue till next weekend!

My first try at soil blocking. This will be how I plan to start all my seeds from now on, takes up less space and less waste. Hopefully we have plants sprouting around 2 weeks.

Haven’t posted in awhile, but hopefully this year will be back and better at making sure I share success and failures. Yes failures because you’re not really gardening if you’re not failing and learning. These beds looks a little empty now but they will be getting mulch and more flowers will start coming up as the weather starts to warm. The goal for these beds is maintenance and not replanting every year. The strawberries are new and the herb garden is housing onions/ shallots and herbs this year.

First part of the deck remodel is complete. Thankful for my brother and nephew who helped us get the rest of the old boards off and redo the outside joists. Everyone pitched in and because of the group effort we were able to complete the first step. Just need rails and new stairs and it will be complete. More to come next weekend!
