For anyone following along, and this certainly isn't photography related 😬but just a quick update on my son:
Since my post back in March, we were still very much on the struggle bus with him and we were referred to Caravel Diagnostics Center here in Rockford. The psychologist diagnosed him with Social Communication Disorder (SCD) and Anxiety. 🤯
My first question was: What in the world is SCD???????
The easiest explanation is that he struggles with carrying on conversations in a socially acceptable way. For example, you might make a comment about the sky being blue and he will respond with wanting chicken nuggets for dinner versus continuing to talk about the sky or the color blue.
They recommended some accommodations for school and going to play/talk therapy to address mostly the anxiety.
He was seeing the therapist on a weekly basis for awhile and she made an observation based on their interactions that needed looking into. 🤔
We were referred to the audiology department at Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic at NIU in September.
Meanwhile school had started back up and he was struggling in a BIG way.
The News:
The audiologist noted that although his hearing is fine, he is not processing noise, conversations, directions when there are distractions, competing noises, or too many people are talking.
They call this Auditory Processing Disorder. Anxiety often comes with APD, when you can't hear but people think you can....well, duh!
He can hear, but his brain doesn't always interpret the messages or where they are coming from.

Take into consideration a school room with 15-20 bodies making noises, interrupting, or all the random sounds a school can make.....
Suddenly it ALL made sense.
Since his diagnosis we've been able to make some big changes and he has had an amazing turnaround!
I do not foresee re-opening the studio at this time, but I still very much appreciate all of you that had supported my photography studio through the last 10 years.
