With a busy summer full of photo sessions ahead, I wanted to share a few little things with those of you who have a session booked, or are thinking about booking one in the future! 🤍
A few simple choices from timing to wardrobe can make such a difference in the final images. Here are some of my favorite tips to help you feel prepared and confident in front of the camera!
✨Lighting & timing matters!
The time of day can completely change the look and feel of your photos. Midday sun can create harsh shadows and stronger contrast, while the hours before sunset (golden hour) create that soft, warm, glowy light that so many people love. This is why I alway recommend an evening session 🫶
A little reminder: golden hour photos need golden hour light, that glow isn’t something we can recreate in the middle of the day.
That being said… don’t overlook cloudy days! Overcast skies can create beautiful, even lighting and make colors look rich and vibrant. Some of my favorite sessions have been on cloudy days! 🤍
✨ Wardrobe tips
Choosing outfits doesn’t have to be overwhelming! A few things that photograph beautifully:
• Solid colors, muted tones, and rich earthy tones
• Coordinating outfits instead of everyone matching exactly
• Textures, layers, and movement (think linen, knits, denim, flowy dresses.)
• Larger patterns like florals or plaid can photograph beautifully
A few things I recommend avoiding:
• Super bright colors that can distract from your faces
• Very dark colors that may lose detail
• Small, busy patterns (tiny busy florals, thin stripes, etc.) that can compete with the image
Most importantly choose something that feels like YOU. The best photos happen when you feel comfortable, confident, and are able to just enjoy the moment. 🤍
I hope this information helps, and I can’t wait to capture all of your sweet memories this season!
