Volkswagen Beetle (also known as VW Beetle, Type 1, or Bug)
Why Was the Volkswagen Beetle Popular?
The Volkswagen Beetle became one of the most popular cars in history because of several reasons:
Simple and Reliable Design
It had a very simple mechanical structure.
Easy to repair and maintain, even in poor conditions.
Affordable Price
It was cheaper than many other cars.
Middle-class families could easily buy it.
Fuel Efficient
The small engine consumed less fuel.
Perfect for long drives and daily use.
Unique Shape
Its round, cute, and friendly design made it instantly recognizable.
People emotionally connected with the car.
Cultural Icon
It became a symbol of peace, freedom, and simplicity, especially in the 1960s and 1970s.
Featured in movies like Herbie, which increased its fame.
Strong Performance for Its Time
The rear-mounted, air-cooled engine worked well in hot and cold climates.
Very durable on rough roads.
Why Was the Volkswagen Beetle Discontinued?
The Beetle was eventually discontinued for the following reasons:
Outdated Technology
Its design and engine were very old compared to modern cars.
Could not easily support new safety and comfort features.
Strict Safety Regulations
Modern safety laws required airbags, crash protection, and advanced electronics.
The classic Beetle structure did not meet these standards.
Emission and Environmental Laws
New environmental rules demanded lower emissions.
The old engine could not meet these requirements efficiently.
Changing Market Demand
Customers started preferring SUVs, sedans, and modern hatchbacks.
Demand for small retro cars declined.
Production Cost
Updating the Beetle to modern standards became expensive and impractical.
End of Production
The classic Volkswagen Beetle stopped production in most countries by the late 1970s.
The modern redesigned Beetle continued until 2019, when Volkswagen officially ended production.

Ford Model T (often called the "Tin Lizzie"), the most iconic and revolutionary car of the early 20th century.
When was it launched?
The Ford Model T was officially introduced and production began in 1908 (first car completed on September 27, 1908, with public sales starting October 1, 1908).
In which era did it run / was it popular?
The Model T was produced continuously from 1908 to 1927 — a total of nearly 20 years.
It became extremely popular during the 1910s and 1920s (the Roaring Twenties era), when it completely changed society by making car ownership affordable for ordinary middle-class families.
Here are some key points about its popularity period:
By the early 1920s, more than half of all cars in the United States were Model Ts.
In 1925 (the year shown on the license plate in many similar vintage images), Ford was producing almost 2 million Model Ts per year — the peak production time.
Its simple, tough design made it perfect for rough, muddy roads (just like in the painting), farms, and early undeveloped highways.
Over 15 million Model Ts were built in total — a world record for any single car model that stood for many decades.
The rusty, weathered look in the artwork perfectly captures the rugged, hardworking spirit of the Model T in the foggy, post-World War I 1920s world, when it was still the king of the roads before more modern cars (like the Ford Model A) replaced it in 1927.
This car literally put the world on wheels! 🚗
