Statement
Dear followers,
As a Iranian photographer and American citizen, I’m so proud of the brave people of Iran protesting and fighting for their freedom. I have lived most of my life in Iran before immigrating to United States. Me, As an artist and photographer, had faced many challenges and obstacles in a country of censorship and religious radicalism. I couldn’t publish most of my artworks even in my personal website. Copyrighted materials and artworks were stolen and published by Iran’s government agencies and there was no respect for the creators unless one was connected to the government system.
When I started n**e and glamour photography in Iran with Iranian models more than 15 years ago, I wanted to celebrate the beauty and elegance of Persian women with my art, to uncover the covered, the taboo. The significance of what I have done is that I have photographed these models in Iran, in a pioneering country in n**e photography: Antoin Sevruguin and Naser-E-Din Shah, the Qajar king were the first photographers to capture n**e figures of the harem women in 18 century, just few years after the arrival of the first cameras in the country.
Since the 1979 so called Islamic revolution, the government used “ Hijab “ as a suppressing tool and an Icon of political Islamic ideology to control and censor women in the society.
My photography is focused on breaking the taboos, contrasting the religious elements like hijab against glamorous sensuality. By projecting persian art and calligraphy patterns on persian n**es, I create completely authentic photographs that show the form, beauty and eroticism combined with religious and Iranian historical elements which itself creates a unique contrast and contradiction.
