This photo symbolizes the contrast between light and dark that people can experience in one lifetime and that both the light & dark have their own lessons, beauty and importance. If you want to read the full story continue...

After I took this photo I cried. I was feeling the weight of my solo road trip coming to an end. I was reflecting on all the things I experienced and the healing internal work I accomplished. I was overwhelmed with emotions. I’d been waiting for a pastel sky and saw this amazing heavy rock beautifully silhouetted across the light sky, which also mimicked the curves of the moon. So I rushed to set up my tripod and after I got the shot I zoomed in on the moon. I realized I had captured the small details and craters on the surface. The photo was already amazing enough and then I zoomed in and found out there was even more magnificence than I could have imagined. I dropped to my knees and started crying because I couldn’t believe the continual beauty the universe was sharing with me and all the emotions I was feeling at the time of taking this photo. As a little girl I used to look at the moon and dream, but I never dreamt my life would become this incredible, especially in comparison to how dark it used to be. The contrast is as stark as the dark rock against the light sky in this photo. Then I started laughing, thinking, the universe has a really funny way of working. It can show you the deepest depths of hell and the highest peaks of heaven all in one lifetime. It’s hard to imagine when you’ve been in darkness for so long that your life could be filled with so much light. Once you see the light, you see it over and over. The darkness is no longer as scary so you can actually appreciate it, know that it has it’s purpose, it’s ok to feel it and you can survive it. Darkness also has a way of teaching you how to truly appreciate the light, how to fall to your knees in tears of gratitude over the beauty of the universe and what your life has become. I’m not sure I would feel such a deep sense of joy, connection and appreciation if I had not experienced darkness. So thank you to the dark, for showing me how to TRULY experience the light.
