What happens when the person shaping the story is also the one behind the camera? As a DP, your focus naturally shifts toward the technical side of creating beautiful images. As a director, your responsibility is guiding performance, and making sure the story connects with the audience.

But when one person takes on both roles, something often has to give. Can you truly stay present for performance while also thinking about exposure, camera movement, and composition? Come
discuss the unique challenges, creative advantages, and lessons that come with trying to wear both hats with William Hellmuth!

Tomorrow! 💥 How Data Drives Entertainment Decisions And Why Indie Filmmakers Should Care👇🏼

📊 Every major entertainment company is increasingly relying on data to inform decision making. From deciding what shows get greenlit, to how platforms like streaming services bundle and position content - companies are constantly analyzing audience behavior to predict what people watch and what keeps them coming back.

Too often, indie creators treat distribution as an afterthought, yet understanding audience data may be one of the most powerful tools a filmmaker has when deciding who they are making a project for, where it should be distributed, and how to position it for success. Join us at the link in bio for this fascinating conversation about how understanding data can help filmmakers think less like artists waiting to be discovered and more like strategists building a path for their work to find the right audience!

Congrats to our Pick of the Month: Bathroom Spider!

When a callous jerk breaks a young woman’s heart, she turns to her resident bathroom spider for advice - with horrifying results. 🕷️

Director: christineweatherup
Writer:

From the director:

“As you may have guessed from our title, the unique challenge for this project was the spider — figuring out how much we wanted to make practically and how much to do in vfx (we even considered using a real spider and having a spider wrangler on set!). We were on a limited budget and schedule, but I knew it was essential to pull off our spider and their web.”

“I found a production designer, Natasha Parbhu, who actually had spider web experience. The final web was something we had the art department working on for half of our shoot day while we filmed around it. In post, the talented James Blythe created our digital spider based on references I had pulled. Which leads me to my own personal biggest challenge: researching spiders and being forced to study tons of up-close scary spider photos!”
