(Ad) Two years ago I got a chance to explore Gallup, New Mexico in collaboration with Gallup, New Mexico, and I still cannot forget this incredible experience!

There are so many incredible places, and all are close to each other. Here are those that impressed me the most:

Gallup Hot Air Balloon Rally: Seeing colorful balloons launch right between the giant red rock canyon walls was pure magic. It completely took my breath away! Just this alone is worth a trip.

El Malpais National Monument: Here you can walk across ancient volcanic lava flows and enjoy otherworldly views. La Ventana Arch surprised me so much!

El Morro National Monument: A peaceful hidden oasis where hundreds of travelers carved their names into the rocks over hundreds of years. Reading these messages from the past felt like stepping back in time.

Red Rock Park: The massive red sandstone cliffs make you feel so small. Hiking the Pyramid Rock Trail gave me some of the most epic panoramic views in the whole area.

Zuni Pueblo: Walking through the ancient Village of Great Kivas to see sacred ruins and historic rock art up close was such a special experience.

Downtown Gallup Murals: I loved walking downtown during golden hour to spot all the bright, colorful street art. Each wall tells a beautiful local story.

Route 66 Neon Sign Tour: Gallup totally comes alive after dark with its glowing vintage signs. It brings back so much fun retro Route 66 nostalgia.

This LA’s marigold field opens this Friday, Oct 23!

📍 Sanchez Produce
🗺️ 16230 Sierra Hwy, Canyon Country, CA
⏰ Flower hours are 9am to 5pm every day until they sell out.
🏵️ This year they’ll have light orange, orange, and yellow marigolds, plus pink celosias.
🎃 They also sell pumpkins, fresh fruits and veggies, and firewood.

Go early in the week, they always sell out fast!

Save for 2027! Bucket list road trip around California 🚙

It takes around 10-12 days, and you can extend it if you have time. Perfect for first-time visitors and for everyone who never found time to explore it all. Note that some of the roads close in winter so the best time for this route is May-October.

If you’re here for the first time, add 2 days to see LA as well.

Is this California's prettiest cavern? Boyden Cavern in Kings Canyon National Park might just be!

This stunning marble cavern is hidden inside Kings Canyon, and walking through it feels like stepping into another world. Towering stalactites hang from the ceiling, delicate soda straws cluster overhead, and the walls are covered in flowstone formations that took hundreds of thousands of years to form.

Here are all the details for your visit:

Location: Boyden Cavern, Kings Canyon National Park. Take Highway 180 into the park, the cavern entrance is about 10 miles west of the Cedar Grove Village area. Look for the signs, you can't miss the turnoff.

Tours: the guided Walking Tour is the classic experience. It lasts about 50 minutes and takes you through the most spectacular chambers. Your guide will point out formations with fun names and explain how the cavern formed. There are also specialty tours like the flashlight tour for a more adventurous experience.

Tickets: around 19 dollars for adults and 10 dollars for kids for the standard walking tour. I recommend booking ahead during summer weekends as tours can fill up.

What to bring: the cavern stays a cool 55 degrees year round, so bring a light jacket even on a hot summer day. Wear comfortable walking shoes with good grip, as the paths can be damp and slippery in spots.

Good to know: the cavern is only accessible by guided tour, you can't explore on your own. Photography is allowed! The lighting inside is dramatic, so it's a great spot for photos.

Combine it with: Cedar Grove is nearby with beautiful waterfalls, giant sequoia groves, and the Kings River. It makes a perfect full day in Kings Canyon.

Some of my favorite views from the last week 💛 If you’re planning to still catch some fall foliage in the Eastern Sierra this year, go to low elevations. The town of Bishop and other small towns around are usually colorful at the end of October. Round Valley is only starting too! Aspendell is at a higher elevation but the town itself also tends to have its peak later for some reason. I’d say this area doesn’t have a bad time! Have you been?

Have you seen anything like this? A restaurant with tables right in the middle of a river!

This is the restaurant at the Big Sur River Inn, and it is definitely one of the most unique dining experiences in California. The best part is that it is located in Big Sur, which is a fairytale all on its own.

You sit at tables placed directly in the shallow river, surrounded by towering redwoods. It is the kind of place you have to see to believe.

Have you ever heard of it? An absolutely incredible place. But please be careful and don’t try swimming in it!

📍 Seven Teacups, Giant Sequoia National Monument
🚗 Under 2 hours from Bakersfield, near Kernville and Johnsondale Bridge
🥾 About 850 feet of elevation gain
⚠️ The current can pull swimmers under, even when the water looks calm

Each cup drops about 6 to 20 feet before the water slides into the Kern River.

Dry Meadow Creek carved these pools into solid granite over thousands of years.

Fall colors are at peak right now on the June Lake Loop! I just spent several days there, and it’s incredible 💛

It’s a 16-mile drive on Highway 158 that passes four lakes. It starts about 5 miles south of Lee Vining, and you can see a lot of it from the car. My favorite way to do it is to drive slowly and stop at every lake.

📍 Grant Lake
It’s the largest lake on the loop, about 1,100 acres. Aspens grow along the shore, and there’s a scenic overlook just off the road.

📍 Silver Lake
Carson Peak sits right behind the water. Horsetail Falls is visible from the Silver Lake Resort parking lot. There’s also a pull-off near the lake that leads to a grove of quaking aspens.

📍 Gull Lake
A few short trails here take you under the changing leaves. The lake is small and quiet.

📍 June Lake
It’s the most developed of the four lakes, with the most amenities. Parking can fill up fast on weekends, so go early.

🥾 Parker Lake Trail
This one requires a short hike. It climbs through aspens and conifers to a lake with mountain views.
