Once upon a time, tucked away behind the highest, frostiest peaks of the Great Mountains, lay a secret valley. In this valley, the water was as blue as a robin's egg, and the grass felt like a soft velvet rug under your toes.
But the most magical thing wasn't the lake or the ancient stone bridge—it was what lived above the clouds.
The Boy with the Binoculars
Leo lived in a small wooden cabin by the lakeside. Every morning, when the sun began to peek over the jagged rocks, Leo would grab his old brass binoculars. He didn't look for birds or bears; he looked for the Sky City.
High up, where the air was thin and golden, tall silver towers poked through the mist. People in the valley said it was just a dream made of light and fog, but Leo knew better. He had seen the tiny glints of flying kites and the soft glow of windows at night.
The Great Journey
One morning, Leo decided he was tired of just watching. He packed a bag with three red apples and a warm sweater. He crossed the Old Moon Bridge, where the water reflected the sky so perfectly it felt like walking on air.
As he climbed, the forest changed. The trees became taller and whispered secrets in the wind. Just as he reached the halfway point, a thick blanket of clouds swirled around him. Leo felt a little bit scared, but then he remembered the golden light he saw from his bedroom window.
Above the Mist
Suddenly, he popped through the top of the clouds—just like a bubble!
The air was warm and smelled like honey. Ahead of him, the silver towers weren't made of cold metal; they were made of shimmering glass that captured the sunset. There were no cars or noisy engines, only the sound of bells ringing softly in the wind.
Leo met a girl named Aria who lived in the tallest tower. She showed him how they grew floating gardens and how they used the wind to play giant harps.
"We've been watching you, too," Aria laughed. "We always wondered who lived by the beautiful blue lake below."
A Bridge Between Worlds
Leo stayed for a whole afternoon, learning that the people of the Sky City loved the mountains just as much as he did. When it was time to go, Aria gave him a small, glowing stone.
"When you miss us, hold this to the light," she said.
Leo hiked back down, past the craggy rocks and through the whispering forest. When he reached his cabin, he looked back up. The Sky City was glowing like a crown on top of the world. He realized that even though they lived in different places, they all shared the same beautiful sun.
From that day on, Leo wasn't just a boy by a lake. He was the Messenger of the Mountain, the only one who knew that if you just keep climbing, you might find a city made of light.
