// Looking at Venezuela x Alfredo Boulton at Getty Center
NOW OPEN! Getty Research Institute features Alfredo Boulton: Looking at Venezuela, 1928-78, an exhibition that celebrates Boulton's many dimensions and accomplishments. Drawn extensively from the trove of papers and photographs in the Alfredo Boulton archive acquired by GRI in 2020, the exhibition is divided into three thematic sections analyzing different aspects of his persona - Boulton the Photographer, Boulton and Modern Art, and Boulton the Art Historian. By exploring Boulton from several angles, the exhibition will focus on this photographic work, his connections to the artists of his time, and his crucial involvement in the development of art history in Venezuela. Considered one of the most important champions of modern art in Venezuela and a key intellectual of 20th-century modernism, Alfredo Boulton was a pioneer of modern photography, an art critic, a researcher and historian of Venezuelan art, a friend to many of the great artists and architects of the 20th century. Despite the important role Boulton played, he is shockingly underrecognized outside of his home country.

// Invasive Spectators x John Brinton Hogan .gallery
OPENING TODAY! Marshall Gallery // .gallery // presents John Brinton Hogan : Invasive Spectators, an exhibition of new work from the San Diego-based artist's project 'Visual Aphasia,' along with the debut of two new projects, 'Everywhere' and 'Expedition Portal.' In these projects, Hogan continues to highlight oddities and anomalies of the southwestern deserts through surreal and hyper-colorful landscapes that have been chromatically distorted and painted upon, prompting enquiry into humanity's presence within, attempts to conquer and effects upon the remote environments. John Brinton Hogan's work examines ideas, issues, and artistic interpretation associated with landscape and land use, primarily in the American West. His most recent body of work, entitled 'Visual Aphasia,' examines the prospect of a post-human Earth. While images are drawn from his photographed "natural landscapes," extreme distortion of their components creates an alien-like, inhospitable world, one whose visual details we've so far only imagined.

// Levitate x Christian Block at ESO | bureau de recherches
OPENING TONIGHT! ESO | bureau de recherches presents Christian Block : Levitate, an exhibition of new works and large-format photography from Christian Block's experiences with creations from in and outside the dynamic high-tech environment of the cockpit. From the interpretation of numbers and displays, a synthetic, three-dimensional image is generated into which we fly real 450 tons of weight and high speed. The resulting aesthetics are clear and uncompromising. Without this technology, flying in clouds or darkness is not possible. Nature and technology release Block's motifs from their world where he takes them and creates a world as he wants it. Born in Bonn in 1965, Christian Block trained as a pilot in Cologne flying long-distance flights around the world as captain of a Boeing 747 while also pursuing photography since 2003.

// Chromatic Reflections
OPENING TODAY! Galerie XII Los Angeles // // presents Yannis Davy Guibinga & Pauline Loctin : Chromatic Reflections, an exhibition intertwining works of photographer Yannis Davy Guibinga and paper artist Pauline Loctin in enchanting and engaging conversation placing the art at center of the exchange. Within this artistic dialogue that transcends the realms of photography and paper sculpture, a profound connection to ancestral spirits emerges within the works, inviting the viewer to embark on a sensory journey where emotions find tangible form and colors echo the secrets of the past. Creative mediums converge in a unique collaboration that blends the works of two artists whose distinct voices nonetheless share a common language across composition, color and continents. A collection that establishes a union between texture & composition, light & shadow, and offers new ways to interpret the viewers’ experience. The worlds created are abstract, yet entirely familiar, for there is a universal quality to any realm that lives - and breathes - in color.

// The Delighted Moment
OPENING TONIGHT! The Hulett Collection // // presents Elliott Erwitt : The Delighted Moment, an exhibition of thirty-two curated works spanning over forty years of Elliott Erwitt's career that have forever endeared viewers. Elliott Erwitt has been called many names over the course of his career, but the one that really kept was being called a master of Henri Cartier-Bresson's "decisive moment" philosophy. Born as Elio Romano Erwitz, the artist was well known for having a keen eye that allowed him to spot absurd moments in everyday life and his photographs depicted this never-ending irony that occurs in our lives, although we would typically fail to spot it ourselves. Erwitt's first steps into photography were born out of necessity and not passion as is the case with many others, but is now highly recognized as one of the best to ever dip their toes in the medium.
