Casting is going to look at your headshot for a fraction of a second, but his one leaves a mark. 😉 by // //

Humanity constantly feels like it’s on the verge of erupting into something new since 2015. But in the meantime…Sheldon is looking lifestyle AF mah-riiigh?

(🎵) I grew up watching Italian romance films my father showed me. Fellini, Giuseppe Tornatore’s Cinema Paradiso. Oh, I was obsessed with Cinema Paradiso; I can’t tell you how many times I cried watching that movie. I fancied myself a love crusader, and in a way even experienced the main character’s journey of having found and lost love to circumstance. Having that much exposure to romance definitely warped my world-view. I insisted on romance, and slowly had reality bleed that need away…until I found photography. In photography, my love of story and romance found a pragmatic companion. When I look at these images side by side, I can see the influence Italian romance had on my artistic expression. On the left is the romantic pursuit, on the right the nostalgic man beaten by reality.
Just like burgers, I have a secret menu. You can order natural daylight portraits. (animal style optional). The huge, industrial windows overlooking downtown from the 11th floor make for insane light that, when shaped, yield incredible and very different results. Until the end of the strike season, we’re offering this option for the same price as regular headshots ($325 for the first look). Use promo-code NB-NaturalDL-Take $25 for an extra $25 off. This is one look with all of ’s sides. Bang bang, hit us up!!

After the connection I made with Aaron during his last known professional portrait sitting, I was moved to change the direction of my career. Shortly after, I was informed of his untimely passing and was devastated he never got to see our portraits. Today I’m grateful and relieved that Hulu took my portrait on to promote their episode exposing the reality of being Aaron. My shots of Aaron now on Hulu.

I’m a big fan of incorporating color contrast (to increase visual interest) and an even bigger fan of limiting that color contrast to two hues while letting everything else be mixes of neutrals. So, here we have warm tones in the skin and an area of the background, and a blue tie. Those hues are at odds, so we let that drama play without adding other colors. Everything else is a neutral tone (grays, blacks, whites). This allows for a dramatic effect to stimulate the viewer without over-whelming them, and keeps focus on the subject’s face and essence. Showing restraint is the mark of experience in almost all industries (I say almost, but I’m pretty sure it’s 100% of industries.)

I know I’ve said this before, and I say it at the start of every shoot: The best way to ensure getting authentic expressions out of your shoot is to be willing to take bad shots, play, explore, and let things happen rather than force them. Other than that, I got you directionwise. Oh, I’ll pull amazing expressions out of you even if you can’t let go on that level, but if you can you’ll get some jaw droppers that you would not have otherwise. has been here twice now. Danny stays honest and trusts his instincts, as well as trusts his photographer. What a fantastic subject. 🫡🙏🏽 // // Headshots by
Neutral tones have their place, and dingy tones have their purpose too (⏭️⏭️). The ability to control the hue of a light is huge for goal-oriented photography (what headshots are). In the second shot, a simple orange hue wouldn’t achieve this level of dinginess. I used bulbs to push a little green and yellow into the otherwise 3200 degrees Kelvin bulbs. The results are tangible // by

I want to take more portraits in people’s homes. Your home is a personal reflection of your internal state. Sometimes it reflects who you are, sometimes it reflects who you wish you were, how your brain functions, what your ego needs, phobias and attributions (real or imagined) can all be on display. You can deduce a lot about someone immediately when you walk into their home; it’s only a few steps removed from walking into their mind. Portrait of in her home by //
A decent actor headshot displays your features. A good actor headshot displays your features and your authentic essence/self. A great actor headshot does all of the above *and* makes a case for your strengths in story form. A Nogen Beck (😉💁🏻♂️) actor headshot is just a great actor headshot but one where the viewer doesn’t notice you’re making a case for your strengths in story form. They just see it. We target, but it’s tactful. It allows the viewer to feel they arrived at their own conclusion. My approach is leveraging visual tactics to nudge, not force. It’s seductive, and it’s f**ken powerful. 😎 // // type pinned down by

I’m always going to be the photographer that tells you to put your true self forward, not your “best self”. Your true self *is* your best self, but when you strive for your best self instead of striving for your true self, you don’t get your best self. What you get is your ego-mind’s interpretation of what others want you to be. There’s no freedom nor art in anything except your truth. If you don’t dare to be your true self, you won’t get seen for the roles for which you’re ideal. Beam out 🌈. Headshot by of being his true self. Men’s grooming by

The shoot was over, effortlessly threw her hair up and started packing her wardrobe. I threw a glance her way and told her to get back in front of the lens. A hairstylist couldn’t have put her hair up better than this. All we had to do was notice it! Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese term referring to perfection in the imperfections; I dig Wabi-Sabi 😎. The Hipo is a marketing term referring to the “highest paid operator”. The reason there is a term for this person in business is because they rarely have the wherewithal to make the right marketing calls. Quite simply, they are too close to the product to know what’s best, and the smart Hipos hire great marketing directors. This way, data drives decisions, not impulses and egos. Every single actor is their business’ hipo, and they often hire no one to give them data on what works. There is science and data to targeting tactfully, ignoring this reality serves your ego, not your career. I’m not your yes-man, I’ll throw hard truths at you (with LOVE) all day. // makeup martial-artistry by // Headshots by
Glowing, beaming, warm and exuding her essence. If you’re looking for this person, this shot jumps off the screen and grabs you. That’s a comprehensive, intentional actor headshot that serves your career before your ego. // sp. thanks // Headshots by // Makeup by
(⏭️⏭️)No matter the look, no matter the person, every subject of every portrait has many sides to themselves. I find the best way to get at all of them is establishing trust wayyyy before the shoot, and then during the shoot implementing surprise as you guide them through the many hallways of their essence. What do I mean by implementing surprise? I mean when they think they’re taking a shot of their deep side, say something to throw them into their shocked-silly side; they won’t get an authentic version of their deep side when they are trying to do so anyways. And vice-versa! As photographers, there should be command of the process, but that command should feel invisible. Sometimes direction is explicit and coddling; sometimes it neeeeeeds to be. But most of the best shots happen through interpersonal nudges and surprise. Here is .carlucha flowing through her selves and trusting the process// Actor Headshots by // makeup by
