David Mao Photography SF based photo enthusiast. IG: https://www.instagram.com/itsdavo/ Hello! My name is David Mao. I developed my love for photography from a young age.

I graduated with a Computer Science degree from UCLA in 2014, and am currently doing software development in Seattle. Some of my hobbies include playing sports, making music, and engaging in other outdoor activities. I enjoy playing soccer, running, biking, hiking, snowboarding, camping, suiting up, and the occasional mixed martial arts. I grew up in a family that appreciated the outdoors, and we

would often go camping, hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowboarding, etc. On these trips, I found myself looking for a way to capture the incredible views that I saw; this is how I picked up photography, and I was always in possession of the family camera. I purchased my first DSLR, my Canon 550D, in August of 2011, and though it has not been too long since then, I have always taken advantage of opportunities to practice, experiment, and improve my abilities. Shoutout to Michelle Chu for helping with the Logo design!

2015 Recap

I've been truly blessed this past year to be able to get out and explore. Looking back, it's pretty unbelievable that I had stood in front of so many beautiful land- and cityscapes--I hope this composite captures at least a fraction of how I felt.

Cheers 2015, and here's to another great year, full of adventures (and photos)!

Week 52 - Pressure

Seeing as this was the final week of my 52-week photo challenge, I felt a lot of pressure to go above and beyond and take an incredible picture.

I first attempted a pretty challenging concept. But to my dismay, I wasn't successful. I then tried another... but that didn't work out either. HAHA :( I was pretty bummed.

But you know what? I'm okay with it. Over this past year, I've tried quite a few cool, quirky concepts and I think I've gotten some neat shots out of it. And while I think I've learned a lot, my two setbacks from this week only show how much more I can still grow as a photographer. While I won't be partaking in another 52-week challenge this year (this was tiring to be honest haha), I'm proud to say I've accomplished this goal. I look forward to seeing what shots I take moving forward.

Thanks for following me on this journey!

P.S. Here's my piano.

Week 51 - Powder Day

First ski trip of the season! Two of my friends and I went up to Summit at Snoqualmie this past weekend. We had a blast--nicest powder I've seen in years. Here's to a great season!

Also, 51 weeks done, only 1 more to go before I finish this photo challenge! Except I have absolutely no idea what to do for this coming week…

Week 50 - Waianapanapa

I went to Maui for vacation this week. In Maui, there's a famous attraction called The Road To Hana, which is a incredibly windy road with many cool attractions along the way. One of these was Waianapanapa Beach, famous for its black sand beaches. I snapped this pic there.

BTW, awesome name right?

Week 48 - Franklin Falls

Oof, sorry this is 2 weeks late, I promise I took this picture on time!

I feel like it's unfair to post this photo without proper explanation--it looks so peaceful with snow lightly falling... S**E. Cheers to crazy adventures through freezing snowstorms, not being able to feel our fingers, getting our cars stuck in snow, hitchhiking/getting saved by a benevolent family with a powerful truck, hot pho, to being safe and sound at the end of the day, and most importantly, to friends to do this with. 😁 So basically we don't have enough REI survival gear right?

Week 45 - Experimentation

So I started off editing this photo to try to get it to look like an old wet plate photo. And then I discovered how to layer textures onto a picture and... I got carried away HAHA. I think it looks pretty neat though!
