After 8 months of waiting and wondering… we’ve finally taken that step of getting rid of all of our contaminated belongings left over from the Eaton Fire. Where once we felt so lucky to have a house that withstood the fires, now we know that the secondary wave of trauma that comes with throwing so many of your deeply contaminated keepsakes, comforts, prized possessions and “things” attached with so many memories away… is real, and deep and as sorrowful as you’d imagine. It feels like we’ve lost so much, over and over again. None of us in Altadena have it worse or better… just different variations on pain, loss and grief. It’s an emotional experience… One that I hope no one reading this has to feel for themselves. All that’s left from our 12 years here in our home… is this little reminder from my kids. “I Love You”. This is what gets me through every single moment of every single day. Love each other, and hold each other close… you’ll never know how much you had until it’s gone. Thank you for all of your help and guidance in this process. We couldn’t have faced this without all of your support.

As we transition from everything we thought we knew before the fires… there are a lot of anxieties and worries that we face everyday. It hasn’t been easy. However, like Piglet from Pooh’s Corner, with every bout of worry, comes an opportunity to show bravery and fearlessness, and a chance to achieve great things in the face of so much anxiety. Well… Here we go… Full of fear of the unknown, and (hopefully) excitement for possibilities that lie ahead. Our new journey begins.
