I met Nikolas Soren Goodich at an art fair in 2021 and was captivated by his luminous works. In 2023 I visited his studio and immediately knew I wanted to try to have him sit for a pinhole portrait. This collaboration produced some very creative portraits that echo his own artwork.

Last December, Cindy Kubert Gordy and I collaborated to make this pinhole portrait. She had to hold this energy and expression for 4 seconds and nailed it! ✨

People choose to have a portrait for different reasons. Artist Anita Getzler reached out to me saying that she was looking to record herself at this juncture in her life's journey. She came ready, comfortable in her skin, and able to be vulnerable in front of the camera. Our collaboration was rich with experimentation.

This photograph is one of six nominated with Honorable Mention and will hang at FotoNostrum in Barcelona, opening December 6, 2023.

Introducing PINHOLE PORTRAITS by Ellen Friedlander Photography 📸

What to expect from a portrait session: These pinhole portraits are less about looking “perfect,” and more about capturing your spirit. I ask you to bring several clothing options, a prop, a hat, a scarf, anything that makes you feel special and/or brings out your personality.

The process is slow and controlled as each capture will be a long exposure (8 - 30 seconds). Learning how to blink, but keep your body still can take a few frames. Once we settle on your preferred pose, then we can play! My goal is to make one beautiful portrait, however sometimes we get lucky and make a few. 😊

$250 portrait session includes:

60 minute portrait session

Contact sheet with 10 - 15 images.

2 jpegs of your choice (for web only). Additional digital files for purchase at $75/jpeg (for web only).

8.5 x 11” prints can be purchased at $150 per image. Larger prints available (price depending on size).

Online or in-person selection consultation (included upon request).
