Laurence Smith Photography Welcome to Laurence Smith Photography. I am a landscape, travel and wildlife photographer. My love for photography started at a young age.

I am a landscape, travel and wildlife photographer and an ‘international flight attendant extraordinaire’ currently based in Los Angeles. I live in the eclectic neighborhood of Laurel Canyon with my two German Shepherds (you can see a “few” photos of them on my Instagram). I was always the one behind the camera at holidays and other family outings. Maybe that’s why I’m not in a lot of my family’s

pictures. I love that photography gives me the ability to capture and preserve moments in time. Moments that can be revisited, reimagined and shared. They can be shared stories. I really began to hone my craft in high school and college. When it comes to my photos, I am a perfectionist. I am detail oriented and I won’t settle for anything less than what I consider the best possible shot, which can mean waiting for hours on end. And once I started my career flying, I had the opportunity to see and photograph so many amazing locations around the globe; people, places, cities, countrysides, nightlife and wildlife (not to be confused with the nightlife). You would be surprised how much you can see and photograph in a 24-hour lay-over. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I do.

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the accident involving a plane from my company, American Airlines and a Blackhawk helicopter out of Frot Belvoir. I have been going back and forth on what to say and I think I have finally found the words to say. In the wake of the tragic accident involving American Airlines Flight 5342, our hearts are heavy with profound sorrow. On January 29, 2025, as the flight approached Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, it collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter, leading to an unimaginable loss. 

Among the 64 souls on board were individuals from all walks of life, each with stories, dreams, and loved ones awaiting their return. Notably, several members of the figure skating community were on this flight, including young athletes, coaches, and family members returning from the National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas. 

The crew members of Flight 5342 exemplified professionalism and dedication, ensuring the safety and comfort of their passengers. Their commitment to their roles serves as a testament to the countless aviation professionals who work tirelessly every day.

As we reflect on this devastating event, we honor the memories of all those lost. Their lives, though tragically cut short, have left an indelible mark on their families, friends, and communities. We extend our deepest condolences to all who are grieving during this time.

In unity, we mourn the loss of these cherished individuals and hold their memories close to our hearts.

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating fires sweeping through California. Entire communities are facing unimaginable loss, and it’s a reminder of how fragile life can be.
